A few years ago when I had only been living in New Zealand for a few weeks I took a trip up to Napier. And so would have the Scandinavian migrants who were unlucky enough to get sent to (where Dannevirke was spawned) under Gladstone's land reforms...we'll send them there ,most do not know English, they wont mind...and the more charry of the merchants became big land holders as they allowed credit to the point that the hard working people trying to carve a farm out of rain and more rain could only clear their indebtedness by giving over their holdings.
