    Braided...

after an early promenade with the dogs, which resulted in putting up a very edible type hare with me rueing the fact that I had not taken the Anshulz...I pondered on what to do with the day whilst being truly disheartened to count twelve weeks until the 4th May...not much was my resounding decision but the leather box beckoned...

3mm braiding thong, three strand braid, turks head...

    Pointer and Toby like this.

What shotgun do you use? I'd imagine it as a fine classical side by side for some reason.

Beretta, S686 Special, 12 gauge, over and under...would really like a side by side (especially for quail)...one day!!

Damn I had my barrels around the wrong way. Would have been surprised if you said a semi or pump though. I want a side by side again I regret even getting rid of mine this year I'm going to ask my cousin what he wants for his. Do you duck shoot or just upland stuff?

Toby, last year was my first experience in duck shooting and I will be forever in the debt of the guys for taking me to the water so to speak!! The one little pond they pointed me to, not long before dusk hit was beautiful but was in the middle of two larger ones...subsequently, the ducks simply flew high over 'my' mai mai to the next...as the sun went down over the hill, and the coolth of the dam water rose up through the cracks in the rickety floor, I had to seriously wonder about this duckshooting caper...the gun barrels were as cold as charity, my legs and feet lost all feeling but the dog could hardly hold himself back as each squadron of mallard flew over...I did not get any waterfowl...and I did not mind either...but I did find that my duckcalling was passable but the ducks were wary and so they should have been...I think it is the camaderie of being out with people you respect and can learn from is what makes the whole event so neat...tallies or none. If I was invited again I certainly would go...but, it is that tinkle of the bell as the dogs works, him pegging the bird in the rough, that whirr of wings and the nice retrieve is what really catches me...

Semis are not guns to me, Toby...they are rapid fire apparati...

Toby, if you ever have the opportunity to go shooting in Australia, try their wonderful stubble quail...magic little birds...

It's the best hunting around I reckon. I don't think I can go hard like last year but I'm quite happy to sit on the pond down the back. also the maize paddocks for the odd pigeon if I haven't killed them off to badly. If you're ever around home through duck shooting give us a yell could have a look on the river or pond or paddocks, where ever they may be.

No I don't know if he does or not...I have not tried them yet either...the ones he has given me end up being used as retrieve material but I will make a pigeon pie one day...they must be good eating when you think that they were kept in their thousands in Europe...my sister sent me photos of ancient pigeon houses from Europe...some of the structures were truly magnificant...so the birds must have been of great importance...
