    Dogs skin red raw

What to do , my trusty side kick has been wearing his dog wettie . It's rubbed him under his front legs . He's been continually been licking and now it's looking dodgy . All wet and weepy . Any advice ? Thought about salt/water mix or even a swim at Beach ? . Will take him to vet but I'm sure there a way to control it . Any ideas ? Have since cut leg holes bigger .

@Munsey, salt and water very good, camomile lotion is also good for drying the skin...

Swim at the beach won't hurt at all. Antiseptic cream may help, I've used some tea tree based stuff for that in the past, although dog usually licks it off.

Obviously cut the leg holes as big as you can...which sounds like you've done. If we are putting in a big day at the river/pond I'll rub lanoline rub/cream stuff all over Pips belly before putting the coat on, it stops that chafing from happening to her nipples and chest area.

but if it has an infection then vet will most likely prescribe antibiotics and pregnesone for short time.

Both out pointers suffer this similar issue when spending a lot of time "scrub bashing" I had a $160 vet bill last week to prove it. We have found using a barrier cream does help a little too.

Thanks for the advice , had a brain wave and stoped at a equine supplies and managed a tea tree antiseptic cream for anamil abrasions etc . $13 . Now I know that would have been $38 at the pet shop or vet . "Will seek vet if symptoms persist "

That'll work, I've used it before too.

I've never used any of the remedies suggested but I am sure some of them will be good and hard to beat what you have got for the $$$ it seems. I will endorse good old fashioned saltwater though and dog saliva... the latter is bloody magical at cleaning up wounds. If you are near the ocean a good swim in the surf does wonders. I have had dogs react to wandering jew and cleared right up after a good salt swim.

Eucalyptus oil, normally only half a dozen applications does 1-2 a day. Teatree needs to be watered down, I mix that 50-50 with olive oil.

The tea tree antiseptic worked straight away . Two doses and was sorted . Which equated to about .50c worth .
