    Easter P&S Wild game trials

Easter weekend Pointer & Setter Wild Game Trials in Taupo entries close this Friday.
Just to throw it out there... Accommodation seems quite cheap too...

A word to the wise here. You have to be at the venue in time for the draw, go out in convoy and stay out all day - the gate is locked behind us.

Also if you're taking your dog it needs to have a current sheep measles certification.

Apparently these days can be quite long depending on the availability of game and the dogs' finding ability. There's water on the course for the dogs but humans should take their own food and water for the day.

Never having been to one of these before I'm just going on what I've been told. Contact the Pointer Setter Club for more info.

zip nada for me Z ! good weekend though and you always take away plenty to chew on .Regular winners lol Robyn .First trial my dog was not well and didnt run -I mean we entered but he didnt run .2nd I miss handled my dog twice on two different days -one he didnt puch him into some areas I should have and the second I shouldn't let him enter a fenced area down into the native but did and he whipped off down the back and took to much time to reemerge -4 min . Today competing against Robyn with Tonto we worked very well , covered the ground and got first scent after crossing a stream into the native again -bit of a tail wind ,bell sounding of moving dog bird away shot fired dog sat .... The very good judge Bob Whitehead who doesn't muck around called it as he heard it -dog flushed bird -fair enough !
Other dogs -its hard to write about as alot of time the gallery cannot see them work as the cover does not allow it -the judges rely on the bells alot due to the low tree cover .Hopefully Petros can cover some of his runs .I did see the start of his today -good running dog -judged said it checked in well and had no faults in today's run but no birds on his beat so solid running and no faults goes through to the second round .All in all a good weekend .One hell of a game feed on Saturday night with one of the members doing a fricken awesome job on the game food for all -pheasant stew, rabbit stew , smoked wild pork , smoked trout ........................... Ian Hendren not a big talker but give that man a guitar and wow he comes to life with a lot of old songs for all to sing along to . Big job for the judges also as the place is hilly and it was quite hot at times .In a few years the trees will be up and the cover alter to hold the birds that run and that is alot of them especially with the bells chiming as the dogs advance but no bell no see dog !

Am sure hoping to attend a trial or two this year...cannot see how we will have finished harvest by Easter though, what with it being placed so early in the month...
