I'm HF on the other forum. Lyn Parekowhai has the Hei Tiki line which is mainly show now but her husband used to shoot over the dogs and a guy up Dargaville way has a dog from her line that he shoots over. He put his bitch to one of her dogs last year and got some good pups.
One guy picked up his pup from the airport and as he was driving home a covey of quail crossed the road so he let the 3 month old pup out to see what it would do. It went straight onto set.
I've seen a photo of 8 week old pups she bred all on set on a pheasant wing. The instinct hasn't been bred out of them but she won't sell any as guaranteed gun dogs because a lot depends on the handler - and the pup, of course.
The reason her husband doesn't shoot over them now is that he is permanently on crutches with arthritis in his spine.
There is a litter due on Monday but that is the first litter she has bred in 3 years. She is also very choosy about who the pups go to and would rather keep them forever than sell them to a home she has doubts about. That's probably why she has dogs there ranging from 3 to 13. :-)
