    feed advice for growing pup

    Hi All

    My Pup is reaching the grand old age of 1yo i'm currently feeding her on puppy coprice supplemented with fattytrim raw puppy roll (frozen stuff from a feed shop) never really had a lot of faith in the cop rice after someone on here probably rightly called it "flavored saw dust" but she was weened on it before i got her and i justified it to myself as supplementing with the puppy roll +she seems to be doing well enough on them.

    Anyway where i am headed is, in the next few months i'm looking to move her onto an adult biscuit with a similar fatty trim roll, just wanted to hear from those with experience with similar breeds (she's a gwh x) what you feed em, the budget is healthy but your eukanuba's and nutra are a bit rich. I have few mates with dogs and those that do are over fed house types, mines at the beach or river every other day at worst, duck pond every weekend, training along the way and following the kids round the yard when possible and i'm loving the journey as is she it seems.

    realize this kind of thing is open to debate but just after a few ideas without having to try her on different ones and see what happens, Also has anyone heard of "Uncle Albers"dog food (pictured below)another oz brand, the local feed supply place is promoting it but i read reviews from across the ditch that were;t flash,he's given me a couple of sample bags that i have only used a couple at a time as treats, she seems to love it but hey fat kids love cake and i reckon it made her thirsty as even after a little.
    Anyway thanks in advance for any advice.

    I'm feeding Harley (1yo lab x gsp) mighty mix biscuits. Started her on the frozen concentrate for breakfast and biscuits for dinner but the frozen stuff is more spendy and she didn't fully digest it so I put her on biscuits only. she loves them and stays in good condition, being a lab she'll eat anything you put in front of her so have to be strict on servings.

    Our working dogs do better on cop rice then any tux. Better still on mutton and veni scrapes.

    Feeding can be very contentious. I have a more relaxed view on it to most. Feed any GOOD commercial food and spend more time thinking about training. Dogs have highly advanced digestive systems. The difference between most cheap foods and more expensive ones is the level of filler that's in them. You can gauge the amount of filler just looking at how much crap the dogs produces. Mine all rarely ever crap more than once a day. On a cheap food they'll go four or more times... passing the "filler" . Buy a mid quality kibble (I use Purina Dog Chow, have for over 10 years and find it ideal) so long as they are not producing a lot of crap and are healthy that's all there is to it. THEY DO NOT NEED TO BE UNDER DIETITIAN WATCH or fed like it's a science. Just feed them well... put the time you would have spent in worrying about "perfect foods" into your training.

    Yep makes sense, don't worry no dietician here just want something that works, don't think she's particularly fussy so I'm sure the transition will be smooth when I choose a product the amount of crap produced sounds like all the science I need then, and condition of course

    got three border collies, all on a dried kibble. its what the dogs i grew up with were on and its easy!

    i do change the brand around a little, tried royal canine, origen, eukanuba, tux, purina.... the list goes on. all much of a muchness, now i just go with whats on sale and they make do. one pup is a ilttle on the skinny side but when he ignores the second half of his dinner and the others scoof it its his own fault, if he was starving he would protect and eat it!

    Pedigree working dog and when I can get it raw. If it's not on sale at farmlands it's on sale at PGG. $60 a bag. They love Tux, I have no idea why, but they get a bag once a year at most. They love it but do shit on it, most that feed Tux are also feeding mutton etc every other day.

    I posted an article from a farming paper (post #52) which compares different dog foods.
    If someone could link it, I don't know how to.
    @7mmwsm, found it!

    Coprice makes horse feed etc. They had a promo at farmlands 18months ago ($36 ish a bag) boss brought a pellet 40 odd bags took as a while to get through it. As well as home kill in between but the dogs were shit off the shit after that. I prefer to change brands a bit and mix it.
    Another option is briskets from farm lands or ppg . not alot of meat on them alot of fat but still a option for those that don't have a home kill option.

    I rarely give brisket bones as it can cause intestinal compaction ...
