    Lab Puppy - Training Resource

After many years shooting over my mates Labs I have finally been in a position where I could get my own.

Zazu is 4.5 months old, and has got the basics (sit / stay / come etc) largely mastered. She has no issues with water and is starting to quick like playing fetch, although the "drop it" command only works with a treat as an alternative still, although I'm sure that will come.

The next steps as I see them are to introduce her to more bird specific work without rushing her (want her to enjoy it). Are there any quality books or training DVDs you could recommend to make sure I do it right.

    Appreciate your advice.

    Cheers

Hi Genty, We have used info from this book in training our 3 labradors. "Labrador Retrievers" by Diane McCarty

Basically common sense will train a lab as they are easy to train.

It's a lab, wave some food in front of its nose, then tell it what you want it to do...

Or if it is real clever put the food on its snout
    Or its head.

If god didn't want us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of food.

Sweet as . Is it normal that the only way u can get a lab pup to do anything is by treats

No that is what a lab wants. Our labs didn't get treats during training.

@possummatti, sorry to barge in here, while we wait for @Dundee to reply, but treats can become the focus for the pup (any breed), not the exercise at hand...

@Dundee, are Labradors always compliant, though. Congratulations on the birth of the three puppies
