    My great grandfather with his dogs...the shotgun is a 12 gauge Hollis and is still bringing down the odd rabbit or two...

    My great grandfather had a single barrel Hollis, still in my safe, haven't fired it for a while now!

    @sako75, I am not really sure when the foto was taken, but I do know that they drew a ballot under the Land Reform act of 1885...although they arrived here in 1902...

    I was going to say about 1910ish guessing he is in his late 20's or early 30's
    Have you searched your family name in Paperspast?
    Not good if your name is Smith. Got a lot of info on ours

    @sako75, after talking to big brother, the dates for them arriving in this country was way too late as great grandfather's eldest son attended the Boer War...so I was completely up the wrong creek...but thanks to you sharing the link with Paperspast, and me ringing my brother in Oz, this lead on to searching for the Boer War etc etc and this is where our conversation ended up...the Wellington Amazons who fundraised to help with money for the guys in South Africa...it so cracks me up to hear women today proudly proclaim that they are feminists...whatever that means...look at these chickies...
