Nothing like a rooster getting up in front of your dog:thumbsup: You must be stoked with how far she come so fast.
Brilliant!!
Good to see the Felcher going so well. :) Tinme to go run my new dog "Holy $hit"... otherwise known as "Grace".
its such a relieving feeling when they start the road to doing what you expect .Grace obviously has drive -an ingrediant one cant put into a dog -she sounds "holy bloody great"
She's starting to do very well. I'm happy.
nice right up to the break to flush......did you stop her after that chase ?
yep at the end you can see her sitting -young inexperienced bitch just finding out what the job .
I would have just recalled her and hunted her on if the stop is not there 100%, no good stopping her after the chase, will confuse her once you start insisting on steadiness, a joy to watch mind.
i was surprised she didnt stop as she is getting very good on the whistle --better than the older dog ! amazingly compliant pup in general but needs to find her nose over her speed but that will come with practice--she is a joy to watch and she goes hard
If you don't already know you may be interested to learn that Gerald's bitch puppy F.T.Ch. Gortinreagh Eppie won the Kennel Club's Derby Stake on Bollihope Moor recently. It may be a unique achievement in that not that many dogs are Champions well before their second birthday and fewer still win the Derby.
Welcome to the forum Des, its good to have another pointer enthusiast on here.
Well done guys, i like reading this stuff as it will never (never?) happen for me unless i retire to the mainland with time to do it!!!!!! which presently is not on the horizon....
Scouser , if you are still in JAFA land next season I will be more than happy to run my pointer for you to shoot over
get outta here hell be a Setter man :P
El Tweed, I fucking like it
Is there public land you can shoot uplands on or all private? Of course, you can't take a shotgun on most (all?) doc land.

I do 99% of my hunting in the Far North on both public & private land.
Look on the F&G website under northland , it tells you what public areas are available and if permits are required, a map is issued with permit and that usually shows how to access an area.
I thought i was going on a pheasant shoot this year, the guys i go duck hunting with go every year, and i got the offer of filling the last space in the vehicle if someone couldnt make it....but they all did!!!!
it was in the forest north of Kaitaia.....but no one was running a dog, just walking and flushing on foot!
They told me that after you added up fuel, permit, food & piss, its about $120 per bird.....if your lucky!!!!!!!!....BUT I'M STILL KEEN
To make a trip North worth while you have to spend a week up there, have free accomodation and it pays to know someone who can put you onto some birds, I wouldnt bother without a dog as pheasants will sit tight as you walk right past them and if you are lucky enuff to flush one and only wing it then theres no way in hell you will find that bird.
It also pays to have someones mum cook for the crew every night.
What's a reasonable kill rate for pheasants up there? And what for quail?

The kill rate depends on how well you shoot
Complete novice I am
