"It's place"?. You believe a dog knows what a couch is, if it should be there or not? None of that stuff means anything to a dog bro, they learn their "role" by good interaction with the handler. Houses, couches, heaters are all just objects to a dog. Some of them really comfy objects!

I agree. My dogs know their place, and as long as I control "the place" it can be anywhere I want it to be. There's little value in trying to "toughen a dog up" they're all born tougher than us and doesn;t mean we shouldn;t show them some kindness here and there. Handling will control the end result, not if it's freezing its nuts off or not.:thumbsup:

as someone who lost his hunting mate recently i now understand that i let him down by not having the control i should have.
but control is not cowering or standing over nor is it begrudging them a bit of comfort that they will well earn.
thier working lives will be hard enough and our job is to nurture thru training not dominate thru harshness or some sence of thinking we need to standover or ''treat im mean to keep im keen''to get our message thru.

You are absolutely right. My dogs are very compliant and a lot of that has to do with the trust they have in me. Bullying a dog might have got a command obeyed for some, but it will never build a team.:thumbsup:

consistency[ the good kind] breeds trust respect equaling a great reliable dog which should end in a great team given you have the right goods to start with on both sides;)

i delivered to a place in methven that used slug bait by the pallet load .
i noticed a elderly lab /lab cross hooking into the stuff panicked and hunted the cockie down.
he was so nonchalant i nearly clocked him '' he only eats enough to get dopey '' ''done it heaps and he aint dead yet''.:sick::oh noes::D

At the after hours vet with a very very sick dog , not good at all!

Update , my dog ate a bag of old rotten food he stole out of the rubbish wheelie bin (almost a month old) the toxins nearly tipped him over . Convulsions , saliva , panting etc . He's improved but been transferred from after hours vet $$$$$$ to my vet $$$$ . We just hope he's not got organ damage now . Fluids and rest .
