what may come across as a complete nut job to you may be the second coming to someone else.
rule of thumb, the higher the drive the better the trainer required.

you've had trouble with them? How would they go in pine slash etc? Queer looking alright, extra toes - you didn't buy him from Gizzy did you?
I normally strap 'em up when we go on anything off-road. He doesn't seem to mind them but will chew on the nails if I let them get too long. The most annoying part about them is that the nail structure is messed up, not like a normal nail. They are hollow but seem to have a longer quick than a normal nail. Read: I have had bloody paws all over me many a time when I've got the clippers out!!!
Dog boots are on the Christmas list so as to make a cleaner, quicker solution when in the bush.
