I think I'm in a safe position to say that my dog dilemma is over, but not without drama yet again.
I was talking to a GSP breeder after the last stuff up and she had just mated her bitch so I went down on the list for that. In addition one of her boys had gone over another breeders bitch and those pups were due start of December. My partner and I only wanted a girl but out of two litters the odds are pretty good!
On Monday got an email from the lady to say that her bitch hadn't successfully got in pup which cancelled out her litter but the other litter had just been born and there were 11 pups! Hells yeh! I thought,
the catch
10 were male and they were keeping the female! haha
So out of two potential litters there was nothing for me. This was a bit disheartening as it's been a shit time lately without anymore rough luck. None the less I knew of a couple of others to try, called the first fella and said he'll be breeding in March with pups ready to go in May. Which is a pain because I've been trying to get something for a while and was hoping to have a dog to take in the bush next rut.
Any rate thought "well may as well call this one last bloke" sure enough they had a litter that was 5 weeks old from his dog over another blokes bitch but all pups had been sold. However, one bloke that day had pulled out on his pup which coincidentally was a female. I had a good chat about the pedigree and hunting lineage of them and I was set. "The only catch though is that they're out whoop" he said, "here we go" I thought but when he mentioned the town it was one only about 40 mins away from me! I guess most people he gets are from the city which is a few hours away.
Called the bloke who had the pups, organised to visit last night after work, drove down and loved her! Was a great bloke who was full of advice. He was openly very apprehensive about parting with her as he said she was the pick for him and after the bloke pulled out he seriously considered keeping her until his other half put the foot down. I have her on an unlimited register as he's really keen for me to breed her one day so he can get a pup from her; at this stage I dunno about that but good to know that he thinks highly of her. so the money is down and she's officially mine now finally. Picking her up boxing day. Touch wood she doesn't get bitten by a snake in the meantime!
Reckon I'll call her Ellie
The Future Deer Slayer!
