Thread: after life for a dog

I had to take one of my working dogs in to the vets yesterday to get stitched up after she ripped her leg open.
I had been holding off on putting down my old foxie coming up 16yrs. The cold was getting to her and had a big tumor as well. So her time was up.

So i am after some ideas, my wife doesn't want to bury her where we live on the farm. Not our farm. I don't really want to get her cremated. Wife suggested making a planter box and putting her in there so we can take it with us.
Any other ideas?

why not cremation? you can get the ashes in a small box and take it anywhere you go.
anyway thats just my 2c worth. i thought i was going to have to put my dogo x down lst year but with a pill a month and the oil supplement with his breakfast everyday he went from me having to lift him off his bed to being able to jump onto the back seat of a ute

Yep the dog went camping every year to the same place so have suggested this.

Yep she had a good life started to going deaf and we noticed she was loosing her balance in the last couple weeks

This is the plan for all of ours they will go on the mantlepiece to wait for me or me wait on the mantlepiece for them heaven forbid things dont work out.

Cost is only minor, there are 3 dogs buried already on our small section and we don't feel like moving leaving our departed mates behind like in the past.

bury them in special place you will revisit in future...or cremation is the $$$ are there.

Spoke with a guy in Balclutha who did taxidermy, he was sick and tired of doing pets though and refused such work. Problem is when you do an animal someone knew personally they find it does not look like their pet. The appearance and expression is different, the eyes are different, you will just know your actual four legged friend is gone.

Curling your furry friend around the roots of a little tree in a big planter pot will work fine. If you go for a southern Rata it grows very slowly and the planter will not become unwieldy -- even if you end up staying where you are for 5-10 years.

Can't think of anything worse than looking at your skinned out pet every day.

Two of mine I had cremated, since I wasn't going to stay at the same place. My last 2 are buried since I've decided I'm not moving from where I am now.

I’ve read this thread with interest.

I love my dogs, I think you already know that. Each to their own, and really I mean that, not being a dick about it, but once they’re dead they’re gone. Wouldn’t even think twice about some kind of physical remembrance, my memories and photos are good enough.

Bury your dog in a favourite place and then move on by getting another. You have a lot to offer a dog, even a different breed otherwise younwill allways be comparing.
