Anyone ever used a GSD to track deer?

    Hi

I have a 15 month old working shepherd and he actually really enjoys IGP style tracking and will search for articles/keys/etc.
Has anyone had any experience having a GSD as a hunting dog? Not pigs but more just as a companion that might indicate but mostly will STFU, stay quiet and track a wounded deer if you don't do so well.

    Cheers
    Adam

so I take it you are SAR????
do not ask dog to hunt or you will be shit canned from other work.

you can have dog as companion who will find anything you shoot...just ask dog to find it...they arent dumb and will know what the hell you asking as they have been scenting it for 5 minutes before you fired shot.
walk at heel quietly and will let you know if something is about....you will have that bit down pat already and being able to read your dog will soon suss out when something is around.

My first shepherd was good on deer, fantastic tracker.
He wasn’t a ‘hunting dog’ as such, but he came hunting with me if that makes sense.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

You teach it and it will do what you want. Mine stays put if told, even when I disappear out of sight.

If that was meant to be funny you failed miserably ! If it was meant to be racist you succeeded in making yourself look a complete dick.

Nah just pet owner that takes himself too seriously 😂 Nah all G they just need something to do so we've put him into a few things

Would really love a hide, I could get him obsessed with that but I use a bow so can't get one myself 😂😂😂😂

Awesome bro!! Mine will stay put but he thinks every walk in the forest is a PARTY

Why be quiet to sneak up on deer when we could be loud and just chase them down?
