I have thaught of the "mentor" idea but i only know 1 person who hunts a dog, and the dog is gunshy. This is my first dog and relise that the dog will teach me more than i can it.
Today he taught me not to leave backsteaks on the shed bench when you run to the phone because like a magician he can make them dissapear!
I think im going to stop taking him into the bush (Hunting) for a few months now untill i can control his sudden urges to completely ignore me and run off into the distance where i cant reach his rope. He dissapeared for 20mins at one stage today! after most of the day being fantastic.
Kiwi training shortly... this will be intresting.

Working with dogs for deer by Niels Sondergaard . This is a good book in English. There are a lot of good books, in German, around , but this is the only I can think of in English. Written by a Danish hunter/dogman/deertracker.
