    Catahoula

We unfortunately had to say goodbye to our Catahoula earlier this week. She was a great dog but certainly lacked self preservation. Certainly not a breed I would recommend unless you had a large property and plenty of time to train and run.

The purpose of this post is to put my feelers out for another but this time a Cat cross, maybe a Cat GSP cross?
Thinking a cross to mellow it out a bit. I love the Catahoula personality but a cross might calm it down.

Would be interested to hear others experiences and knowledge of various Cat x etc

    Cheers

Sorry to hear about your Catahoula GKP, they are a great dog and I have had them on my radar for awhile after running into the breed in Taranaki 15vyears ago. Almost got a Catahoula x Cat/ Irish wolf hound pup before we settled on Ziggy. The sire was 1/2 Cat 1/2 WH and was a tall bugger but dumb.. too big a dog for us at the time

Not sure if a GSP x would slow them down, my daughters GSP is a handful and has a massive tank and prey drive.

    Thanks mate
Yes I have heard as of recently the GSPs have some go
I loved the Catahoulas personality but once it gets an idea of how it should operate it it is very hard to convince otherwise.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I had a Catahula x lab for 5yrs. Had to put him down in the end, had cancer. Very loyal dog and a great pig dog. No matter how much training I did, I could never get him to tuck in beside the pigs. Had a few pokes, would go straight for the ears. Biggest pig was 135lb, how he didn't get smoked I will never know. Big tusks.

@Gkp saw this and thought you may be interested. A bit far away from Queenstown but maybe worth an inquiry. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/pets-animals/dogs/dogs-for-sale/other/listing/4864739441?bof=z3iIZUkq

If you have a garden and a library, you have all you need. Oh, and a dog, and a rifle
