Dog paws
Has anyone else had issues when taking a dog tahr hunting in the rockier stuff with dogs feet getting a bit sore and rubbed raw? Will this get better as she does more if it will they toughen up or should i look at getting a set of booties for her when running around scree stuff?

They will only get used to that country by being conditioned everyday on similar country.
I am lucky and run my mutt everyday on riverbed and rocky terrain.
I haven't had him in the high country yet tho but his pads and nails seen pretty good.

My sheep dogs wear their pads off at the start of summer when the ground hardens up every year, there pads harden up after a few day and are all go again. You can get a pad spray from the vet called pad aid which is good at healing and hardening.

We used to dab meths on them when they got raw when I was shepherding.

Reading the first few lines, and thinking what did granddad, say he used to dab, on the dogs pads, to toughen them up.
and then bingo Thar comes along, thanks, took me back 30 years, to a time, leaning on a fence with My granddad.

Ive used the beach (salt water) to toughen soft pads up, seems to work .

Dogs paws imo should be toughened but also soft and flexable to avoid cracking. Rub vasilene into them once a week, or more.
Remember the vasilene is for the dogs paws, ok.
