Staffy X type, collar-no tags...found on Thompson's Track Waikato side...but could have come from BoP side or off North-South track...quite light in condition so could have been lost for some time...I will put a photo up tomorrow, not that it helps as they all look the same.

Might have a chip or tattoo?

Awesome thanks Cigar ,,,,spent lots of hours looking for Chief good friend of mines dog, he is chipped and originallly had a harness on too ,,,,would be awesome if it was cheers
Sorry but not that colour, as soon as there is daylight I will get photo up...I will get him to the vet today for chip scan...he was seen several times over 3 days here before being caught, didn't seem to hassle the chooks, cats, dogs, neighbors sheep, or people...a bit timid to catch so that and his condition makes me think he has been bush for some time....he will not be impounded.
Good to be wary of this happening. Legit owners should be able to produce several dozen pictures featuring their dog.Quote:

That is a very generous offer and I thank you for it, if the occasion should arise I will take you up on it but in the meantime all is good....been to the vet, not chipped, not ear tattooed, no scars (they add character to a dog)...he is about to get a big fat anti-worm tabletQuote:

How about scars that would suggest he’s a pig dog? I assume he didn’t have a tracking collar on. Occasionally I come across pig hunters that aren’t using tracking gear, but not very often.
Hope you can track down his owner. It is possible that he is a long way from home but considering what you’ve told us about where you are located he’s probably been lost relatively locally. Sometimes it pays to wait a bit and I think you’re onto it, it’s great that you’ll feed him up. An owner will have photos and will obviously know his name, to which he will react immediately…
There’s always a small chance that he’s been dumped of course.
I say all this simply because we’ve been through this exercise four times over the years with dogs coming out of the bush at this end of the Kaimais. Our neighbours know that we’ve got a good kennel for stray dogs so they bring them here. In every instance it’s been a lost pig dog. Once we were able to respond to a sign up at the campsite entrance, the other three times the owners have found us after we’ve posted on various local message boards. We’ve never experienced any dodgy buggers trying to score a free dog.

He looks like your avatar, are you sure he's not yours?...still entire, cocks leg to piss, not an old dog...have had lost dog notices on gate and in letterbox in the past but not this time...I have had dogs lost in the Kaimai's, the longest being 7 weeks and at some point ended up with leg through collar and gave her a armpit slash that would make your eyes water to look at, she survived and still have her...as said he has no tracking collar but as you say not everyone uses one...he has no interest in pigs I have including free ranging piglets.Quote:

Some people don't seem too worried if they loose their dog. I had a pup turn up here a couple of years ago and it took the owner over a week to finally come and collect him and that was after me putting notices up in the local shop window which everyone in town knows has all sorts of notices in the window. When the owner turned up to get him he didn't want to get in the car. Makes you wonder what sort of a life they have.

If I think about the general condition of my mates’ pig dogs, and these are serious fellas, their dogs are run very lean and have extraordinary stamina. Proper long-distance finders. So if I compare their dogs to this dog he probably doesn’t look that lean.
Interesting that he is not interested in your pigs. A good pig dog raised and trained properly on a farm should not bat an eyelid at domestic pigs, but a great many pig dogs are not raised on farms and don’t know the difference! If a tiddly piglet isn’t giving him a rark up then he’s either very well trained, or he’s not a hunter at all and just has a low prey drive.
Do you do Facebook? I don’t but my wife does and that’s how we were reached. If I remember correctly The last couple of lost dogs went into the Waihi Community Grapevine and it only took a few hours. Te Aroha probably has something similar.
On the off chance he is not a hunting dog I have put a notice up on an off road facebook page, they are shockers for leaving their dogs behind but they also get asked by people looking for dogs to keep an eye out...early days.Quote:

The dog will get a good life, he'll join the team the young fella (16) is putting together to clean out paddock pigs, mostly small weaner pigs and yearlings that cause so much damage. So easy going, nothing too strenuous, busy but not too hardcore. First he'll undertake basic training, and be sheep / goat / deer proofed, and zapped anytime he's inclined to chase past the bushline. Once he's mastered basics, he'll be onto the payroll properly.
Generally speaking, only pups bred through the boss's lines make it onto the A Team, chasing the nasty bastards in the bush.
