    Greyhound Racing

I'm not a fan of racing of any description, dogs, horses, motors, anything.
    But each to their own.
This dog racing ban smacks of another small slice of big picture.
There have been previous attacks on pig hunting with dogs.
How long until it's bird dogs, farm dogs etc?
    Something to think about.
    Overkill is still dead.

    Yo Dawg

I worked at a Greyhound racing stable when I was 16, and have loved them ever since - when I get old and fat I'm going to buy a biiiig sofa and sit on it with a bunch of greyhounds. The worlds fastest couch potatoes, greyhounds are.

They do get injured a lot though, as they are bred for extreme speed so everything not necessary to run fast is removed (including smarts. Greyhounds are about as dumb as a dog can be and still breath unassisted) and there isn't a lot of money in a 2 year old GH that can't race.

P.s. I think there is a fair amount of truth in 7mmWSM's comment about this being the thin end of the wedge - and I know there are folks who are determined to end all forms of "animal exploitation". No farming, no need for farm dogs. Simple really.

To be fair...the industry was warned...and told to clean Thier collective acts up...the registered dogs that just vanished without trace or reporting continued supposedly...going by what was said year or so back. I love dogs, the thought of putting one down cause it's broken two toes ...yeah nah,the writing was on wall and was ignored.

Pighunters have for the main part cleaned up Thier acts, pigs are USUALLY dispatched quickly...a few big fines etc twenty plus years back saw to that.the fellas who gets dogs ripped up and don't get proper vet treatment get procecuted.and so they should be. A dog will give it's all for us for fook all in return.

To be fair Micky, there's some shit house firearm owners out there too, we are getting tarnished by their actions.
Are all greyhound owners/trainers not abiding by the warnings?
    Similar scenario.

The difference or comparison would work if and only if all said firearms owners were competing in organised events and still being shithouse. The event organisers had been warned to clean house....and appear to have failed to do so.

And they will still be able to own greyhounds...and run them...just not in competition or organised competitions.its the INDUSTRY of racing being axed, not the owning of the dogs.

Farm dogs HAVE already been under spotlight. Rightly or wrongly,as a nation we are slowly cleaning up our act and our behaviour towards animals is being looked at and changed if found to be wanting in animal welfare department. How far this goes is bigger question... I live in hope sanity prevails and we find a happy medium .both ends of spectrum may not be completely happy but with careful balancing all parties should be pacified and end product workable. Docking cows or dogs tails is no longer a widely done thing.sheep must be shorn once a year...dehorning now needs local anistetic etc etc etc
