    Looking for wirehaired pointer stud

    Hi all,

I have been hunting with my wirehaired bitch for the last 7 years and would really like to breed from her before she gets too old.
She has a good nose and a fantastic nature.
We would of shot 100+ deer together over the years.
If anyone knows of a dog that may be suitable (preferably southern south island, but willing to travel) please let me know.
    Thanks.

Glen Morris of Back Ridge Butcher fame had a dog. What a monster it was. Would have been perfect for you. Just saying. Nice looking bitch.

    Nice bitch

My GWP notch Josie is 11 years old now and I will have to think about another one sooner or later

GWPs have a bit of a reputation
They seem a lot steadier than GSPs
Some vets are a bit scared of them
    But they are very social
Josie doesn't like kids rocking up and hanging on her ears
She will fearsely protect my vehicle or work site if I'm not around
She can hold a pig bigger than her and just won't let it go

Don't buy one if you aren't living with acreage

@Mohawk .308 they can definitely be a handful when they are young but seem to settle down after a couple of years!

My wirehair bitch is 12 and we've shot 221 deer together. Murder on cats and little dogs, otherwise very well mannered and a pleasure to have around. Great breed but you need to be careful about blood lines and faults. The wirehair in NZ is very closely bred with very few out crosses. I only know of one breeder who has introduced new blood in recent years.

Wirehairs have split into two lines now.
The ordinary NZ wirehair is quite different to the new line of imported and tested dogs referred to as "Drahthaars". Drahthaars must meet a rigorous testing regime controlled from Germany. I only know of one Drahthaar breeder here, although there were 2 for a while.

Not sure how many kennel club registered wirehair breeders there are - not many.

And then there is a pool of unregistered dogs.
