Male dog being pathetic over new bitch

I just acquired a lovely 1yo female working dog and our male dog is being really pathetic over her. Whining, chattering teeth and drooling over her. Hes unfixed and neither is she. She had her first heat 2 months ago.
I also have another bitch who is spayed, she isn’t so bad but was chattering her teeth for a while when following her.
Will the male pull his head in eventually? He’s older and it’s only been a few hours. I have never had an issue with female and male dogs behaving this way unless one is on heat.

I don't know anything about dogs, but that sounds like normal male behaviour :D

A few hours?! Give the poor bugger a break.

Yes I’m aware it’s only been a short time but I have never had this behaviour from a male dog over a bitch unless she’s on heat. He wasn’t even like this for the last girl.

He's smelling her pheromones cos she's just one of "those" girls. The teeth chattering is a way of transferring her scent to the glands in his mouth.

It's annoying, but relatively normal for intact males when presented with a new hot totty, particularly randy ones. Some dogs are just randier than others. I had a mature Rottweiler male who, after we got a new little bitch Rottie, only ever went where the fanny end of his new fascination went. Like as if his head was attached to her rear end by a rope, all day long. He did the teeth thing all the time. He got so annoying I ended up separating them - minute she was gone he settled down.

That damn dog sired unplanned litters with a friend's Dalmatian bitch, a neighbour's Lab and even managed to get one over a Basset bitch on a farmstay (that was awkward). Some dogs just have their brains in their balls. But in all three instances we know of, the bitches came looking for him.

He'll be onto her in a flash in about 3-4 months when she starts waggling her booty, so watch out.

with a bit of luck the new bitch will give him a tune up and he will back off....
definately need to be on the watch out for when she comes into season.... the old footrot flats bitches box comes to mind....

I wouldn’t mind getting pups from her down the line. She is kelpie x border collie but I’d like to avoid it for a while yet!

Yeah he should settle down in a few days once she gives him the message she is not hot to trot. Watch out for any protective moves he decides to make with her, since he may also get a bit protective of his new potential squeeze.

Walked out my kitchen door one Sunday morning to be confronted by this shocking scene. 1997? Locked solid they were, for bloody ages! Nothing I could do about it, too late for intervention. Old Mission couldn't bloody walk properly for days after that.

Man, they were nice puppies though. Fluffy little things that grew to be almost exactly 50/50 in mum/dad colouring, with sharp boundaries between the Rottie bits and Dalmatian bits. Really odd! But strong, powerful and fast dogs, great warthog hunters. Cool as.

So, the moral of the story is, be alert, cos sometimes the bitches can be right slutty little tarts. This one travelled a fair way to come find her beau, and jumped a bloody high timber fence to get into the yard!

They sure would have been hard case pups. I saw a pup from a Rottie malamute cross before. So cute, had the Rottie undercoat with the long white malamute guard hairs over the top. Very fluffy :)

I suppose it is in our overall interests to keep each other honest after the Bunji episode, so with that in mind I shall post one more photo of dog porn and if you really need to see any more then you need help! As you can see in this photo (which I withheld last night in the interest of public safety), old Mission really was locked tight and couldn’t go anywhere even if he tried! Just look at the froth on his chin, he was going hard and then after a while he wanted to stop but couldn’t…

The real problem with me posting the photo was that I’ve spent a couple of hours today looking for the photos of the bloody pups! This is the problem with our celluloid record of ancient history… we’ve got photos in albums in just about every room of the house, in boxes in the lofts of both house and shed, and we suspect several boxes in storage at the in-laws. Every time I go on a mission to look for something specific I always end up realising how horribly exposed we are to losing everything should there be a disaster of some kind.

But it’s been bloody good fun going through old albums that I probably haven’t looked at for the best part of 20 years, certainly it’s entertaining for my boys who’ve never seen parts of their family history. It’s also given me a kick up the arse to contact my brother-in-law in Pretoria who we know had a whole heap of celluloid photos of us hunting together in Northern Transvaal - those I really would like to see again.

Yeah same Flyblown, I was digging through some old pics of my previous pups and bringing back fond memories. The trouble now is you can't even get reprints off the negatives since no one processes film any more.

Ha ha doggie porn.

What would happen if Lorrainer Bobbet had owned the bitch and got there first @Flyblown ?

Laugh bitches box :XD: So was way up north duck hunting shooting pigs and generally having a good time. My mate was working up there fencing for the cocky. We wanted to go down to the local but one of the birches was in heat. Anyways there was the old out house out on a small hill at the top of the drive. So me good mate says bung her in there and off we went. Five in the car out the door yeharr great time had by all and get home around 12 eyeballs slushing.
As we come up the drive we can here the dogs going for it, as the lights swing around they catch the out house out there on it’s little hill……only it’s now on a bit of a lean eh……..as the car levels out the lights lower and we can see around 8 dogs having one hell of a ding dong, but something is just not right….there all the same colour?
On exiting the car we find out why.
The smell hits us……shit. Right in the middle of this fecking great dust up is the bitch she is knotted up with another.

In regards to your worries about loosing all your photos should a disaster happen. I have a couple of roller containers full of the most important photos, jewellery etc that I can grab if im home when something happens. We had a house fire back in 2016 and that was the first thing I grabbed. Everything else is replaceable except those photos.

Not sure if still available but warehouse used to sell a unit that you feed your negs into and it converted them to digital format , must get round to getting one myself . They were quite cheap to .

Nar bit further north than that it was just south of Waitiki landing the pub was the Houhora Tavern.
Good times used to hunt 90 mile in an old VW with the bonnet ripped off pig dogs in the front. The pigs would come down at night to eat the sea weed and what ever else washed up. We would race down the beach in this thing see the pigs slam on the picks and dogs would go flying out the front into it.

Well avoiding her getting an unwanted pregnancy in 6 months is going to be easy because she’s off back home. Unfortunately I think the chaos here was a bit much for her and we may be suited to an all boys team and her a quieter home. She snapped at the kid yesterday when he walked past her to come inside, literally tried to bite me in a pretty vicious fashion this morning. we were told she can be a bit growly but this was a bit more than that. Bitch1 doesn’t get along with her at all and is my top dog and has had to spend the last 2 days locked up, dog 1 and 2 who are both unfixed are not getting along at all since she came along and they are both hassling the shit out of her and I’m worried dog 1 is going to end up hurting dog 2 or worse they both hurt her.

Sounds like she’s living up to the name…and bring a right bitch..pun intended :)

I brushed the child snap off as maybe her getting a fright but to then go at me this morning rather visciously and unprovoked was a step too far. My dogs are also my family dogs so they need to be safe. It was like her behaviour done a complete 180 overnight I’m guessing she just has had enough of the chaos of a busy house/ farm. Dog2 was so obsessed with her he ran into a trailer trying to get to her and almost knocked himself out. It was carnage. She was very happy to see her mum again who told me she was basically wild when she first got her earlier this year and has needed a lot of work. I’m thinking a 1 on 1 home is better suited to her. I think I’ll start with a young male pup on a clean slate this time. Then they can get used to family life before moving into work life.

good call...you gave her a go and recognized it wont work...better for her to go home than end up in an offal hole. as so many have done in similar situations over the years.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out Chelsea. A new dog can feel a bit cornered and not be sure of their place in the new home which always leads to a bit of chaos while it all sorts itself out. Like you say though, there can be some damage done while they are sorting it out which is best avoided if possible.
A new dog will throw the whole hierarchy up in the air while they all try to resort their positions. It can brew for days before anything kicks off, then all it takes is a side look and it's teeth and hair in all directions.

Her owner was already on the fence about rehomimg her because of how she can behave. She would try and bite her partner. Which I later found out. My number one priority was fitting into the family. We ended up locking all the dogs up so she could have space especially so the boys stopped hassling her. Yesterday she suddenly became really intense and the biting was quiet nasty. Someone told me she’s “happy snappy” it doesn’t matter how happy she is she will
Snap out of the blue which I hate. I was patting her and went to lead her off and she just went silly and latched onto my arm in a real feral way growling and flipping. Absolutely unprovoked and unnecessary. My older bitch really didn’t like her and she has been a real handful all her life so I didn’t want to compromise her. We have never had behaviours like this when introducing boys but that unfixed butch made them all loose their minds.

@Chelsea just a thought, based on personal experience...

Dogs can mistake the smell of a UTI in a female dog as a heat cycle. If she is a few months out from her last heat, she may have a UTI, and I'd suggest you get her looked at as if left unchecked it can affect her fertility, and indeed her life if it is a bad infection. This can also make them behave oddly. My 2 cents
