    Out of time

After a quick tussle with throat cancer we laid our old boy to rest at the start of the week. Nugget was around 12 years old.
We took him on at one year old as an untrained rescue dog. A slight built Shepherd/Huntaway cross with no manners.
He spent six years at my side on the farm I ran, he learnt to work sheep for me, and he quickly became my shadow.
My lad and him grew up together and they were always the best of mates.

A change in career saw him retire and become the full time family pet.
Many 4wd trips, tramps and family outings were had together. No way he would have ever been left behind.
Nugget got a mate a couple of years back in the shape of a Mastiff/AM Bulldog cross. She kept him active at home and spent a lot of time with him recently, checking on him, cleaning him and even letting him lean on her when he was a bit shaky when walking.
She watched us bury Nugget and has been really lost these last few days as has the rest of the family.

    Miss ya heaps mate.

Sorry to hear mate, keep your head up. One of the hardest things is that we outlive our furry mates....

Oh no, that's a real bummer Roktoy
You tell yourself they had a good life but it never really makes it any easier.
maybe a new pup soon to pick the girls' spirts up ? although sometimes they can get a bit grumpy with a petulant pups hassling them when they don't want to be.
    Best wishes mate

    Condolences roktoy.
We had no idea just how attached to a dog you can get until our first mutt (now around 14 mths old) licked and chewed his way into our hearts .
I couldn't imagine life without the little shit now ....
Maybe a new puppy on the cards for you to help distract from the sadness... ?

@Ftx325 Nah no pup in the near future for us. We were only meant to be a one dog family until my wife discovered bulldogs come as puppies.
Our other dog is only just 2yr old so we will focus on her for a while. She won't object to getting twice the attention from us.
They become as important as the 2 legged additions to the family, they just tend to behave better too.

    I have never owned another.
