My Hunting Lines Gordon Setter is very able to just chill on his bean bag or sack mat all day long but when the walking boots or rifle comes out he wakes up.
They generally run 20-35kg so 10kg smaller than the show dogs which leads to fewer joint issues if they are doing lots of milage.
They can jump but it's that physiologic thing. I had one that was a jumper and anything under 6' did not exist as a barrier but he was encouraged to jump by another dog. My second one will not jump a 4' fence and we have never encouraged jumping.
Again so much variation in Dogs. First one would not eat if he could play or hunt or be with me. Second one is more dam Lab than setter and is always hungry.
Still that makes him a very fast learner as he will pay attention real hard if he thinks he will get food. But he's not the dog to try and lie on your lap while watching TV. My first one was the opposite. Very affectionate and did everything for a pat.
