That dog aside, a decent deer dog is only coming into its prime on deer around that age especially in the HP breeds, provided it is still active and ailment free.
My old mate did his best work between 9-13. He started to go deaf so he growled as he got close to animals later on. I only took him of deer for that reason.
That dog looked a bit older and fat to me. May just be the photo.
He used it on ducks and pheasants, is a younger dog better for that sort of work?
