Doesn't look anything like him Moonhunt. No blonde curls at all .... ha ha ha ha
Good set of back wheels
Haha saw that , catching all that sun. So did he go to school or is he picking up a dog
Whoooooo, I'm keen as! Thanks for putting it up moonhunt. Rushy, how to convince mum?
Umm, he's got a grey face, he's 7yrs old and looks older, probably only 2 more useful years life left in him before he take over the spot in the front of the fire fulltime
Reckon it's not worth it?
I was thinking it could be an into for me. Have a dog that's not totally green for a couple years, learn a few things, then get a pup. Only problem with that equation is then I have to pay for it to sit by the fire unless I give it away. I'll talk to the guy and see what state he is in.

Bugger. Bad timing
There you go Phillip. Found him running loose in the Kaimais
Genius. Easy as that.
I'm just saying you will get a short working life out of him, it's up to you if that still works with your plan.
Waiting for him to get back to me with his cell number

I have to side with Gibo and barefoot on this one. By time you get him doing what you want he will be on his last hunts and by the sound of it he has not spent much time on deer. mostly birds.
Which could mean he spends most of his time in the bush chasing moreporks. There is a few years at the end of a dogs life that all they can do is lie on the deck and waddle down to the gate and back.
You guys are probably right. Though where I'm at is a good time to train a dog because I have a fair bit of spare time, I'm thinking of doing my OE in 2015 so I might save it till after then. Its all very tempting though!

Didnt know you were heading away, could still work if the guy sorts himself, give it back in a couple of years
I will buck the trend here, 7 is not that old, most of my dogs have hunted untill 10 or more activley, not having had a hunting dog im sure Phillip could learn a trick or 2 before statring on his first pup
That dog aside, a decent deer dog is only coming into its prime on deer around that age especially in the HP breeds, provided it is still active and ailment free.
My old mate did his best work between 9-13. He started to go deaf so he growled as he got close to animals later on. I only took him of deer for that reason.
That dog looked a bit older and fat to me. May just be the photo.
some good words here, but i'd be more inclined to say they start really earning there tux at around the 3-5 year mark if hunted regular as they age they tend to slow right up or hunt smarter if it's a running dog, the best years can be later in a dogs life, in Europe most are burnt out by 8-9.
Yeah, someone sharper with dogs than myself would get their best years starting around 3. My fella did however start to settle around 3. He was alright on deer from 3 yrs but he had some issues. They were my fault not his.
He was head strong, big and fast. Also even though he had a reasonably long attention span, I think he bored easily until he worked out for himself what we were up to.
As he got older and wiser I found I could concerntrate more on what I was doing than worrying about him. It took a while to trust what he was telling me. I quickly learnt that he was a bit sharper than I was, when we were on to deer:D All of a sudden I started to be the reason we fluffed a few:D
No luck getting his number yet

Talked to a guy who is giving away his 2 yo gsp bitch. Said " Extremely laid back. Ive had comments that she is pretty timid, but that really is an initial reaction (in our company with strangers she will put her tail between her legs and come nuzzle me, but then she will warm up to someone and then go nuzzle them). "
Laid back suits me to do you think she sounds a bit of a wuss? Thoughts?
Vizsla guy aint reply to my message still

Sounds like shes worth a look. Timid with humans is no indication if she will hunt well or not for you is it?
Haha yep that's a good call. I guess even if it didn't have the balls I could just wait till the deer got stiff and then the dog could lead me to where it was bedded. Either way no replacement for good shot placement no would I hope it be.

Since when have you expected your dog to be a tiger???
