Yeah that's a good call. Start with the basics, get them solid.

Sometimes this works but maybe not, just turn up with dog, tell mum no prob if you dont like it such and such will shoot it for me, but you got nothing to stand on if she calls your bluff
Don't worry about the timid bit, I had a gwp that was to till it was time to take down deer, then she was a machine.
That's good to know wirehunt. A mate of mine who is a farmer was a bit concerned it would be hard going training out bad habits if it had any from the last owner. That's just going off his experience with his heading dogs. What do you reckon?

Phillip you are putting a lot of energy into not getting a dog. I reckon if you want a dog without faults then get a day old pup or a dead one.
Yeah that'll be the go I think when the old dog dies. Mum was warming to the idea of that vizsla but there is no way she'd want a pup doing it's business everywhere.

They don't if you train them. The five week old pups here are already getting well toilet trained.
You give it to Rushy to look after
Too easy ;)

Well the puppy would be able to run around under and through the legs of your monster.
Of course the catch is when you both go away.
and I was a marmite boy . . .
