Really enjoy this thread. Just a few photos of my young bitch Kahu. Half a GWP/ Heading Dog Cross. Best $400 i ever spent. She's gone through the BGID Blueprint and has about 10 odd deer to her name. Her first being a Sika Stag which she tracked for a 1km over 3 hrs through steep manuka country after it was gut shot by a friend.

Took Bea into the Kaimais for her first hunt today.
It was only for a few hours and we didn't see anything but she went really well. She was off the lead and I wasn't sure how she would go. She was all good though. She didn't get too far in front. She would stop and look back to me. So a promising start. I'm heading into Whirinaki next week so we will have a far better chance of getting onto something. Fingers crossed
She's a bit knackered tonight:thumbsup:

No wonder he looks so pleased with himself :)
He looks to be one of those special dogs that don't come along too often.
I would say he has earned the back of the ute mate :D
Sako who has just turned 4 & now totally switched on to what is required for successfully tracking & locating a wide variety of game from Deer to Quail & all without a word having to be uttered . Today alone Sako & Muttley the GSP/Kelpie/Header X tracked & pointed 3 Deer & 2 Pigs working on hand signals only .
Here is Sako a few days ago switching from having tracked & pointed a Stag to scenting & pointing a nice Boar seconds later ;

Muttley; Papered, Horney, Fence Jumping, GSP Father /Papered & imported , Loose Morals Kelpie, Mother/Header X.
Just turned 14 months ,was only ever meant to be company for our now retired Lab & a general Farm dog to keep the missus company ,now shows more potential than any of the dozen Gun Dogs l have had over the years & all rounder from retrieving ducks to pointing/tracking Deer,pigs.goats etc & will work till drops if allowed ,my bet is will grow into the best Gun Dog l have ever owned .
Here we are trying to have a quiet cuppa & smoko at a favored spot, we leave gear at & Muttley is letting us know Deer scent is drifting up on the morning suns heated air from the valley below. We can tell what is scented as when a Pig is scented the hackles go up .

Glad to hear they are both going well :)
lol always better to be pleasantly surprised by a dogs' ability, than to get one for a specific purpose only to find out it's not keen on doing the thing you got it for :) Sounds like Muttley has the makings of a great muttley :thumbsup:
Interesting about the Dogs hackles and pigs. Mine have the same reaction.
Mrs took this photo on weekend.
