I've put together a website too, please bear with me its early days and a little light in content www.otamarakau.com
Great foto, @Pointer...
The website looks good...great fotos....
Thanks. Have a bit to add to it yet, historical articles etc. but it's a start. Mind you, are these things really ever finished?
Yep. As explained to me by the local kaumatua it was a cheeky term for a young ace, stick boy or son of the stick. The pa site at the end of my road is Otamarakau
Mere kindling...:)

Superior intellects taking a different view of the world.
:D:)
They dog owners get to look like there pets  @Woody I rest my case
@EeeBees turns out you are also correct. Further inland in the eastern BOP where the old dialect is still spoken it becomes 'sons of the trees' apparently
nice scott type.
I'm more concerned with what's between those flappy ears :)
nah, I be happy with a face like that at our house but @gsp follower you are obviously biased towards dogs with a "crazy madhatter gene" :D
Of all the breeds we have owned, Pointers are hands down best in the house, best company and best all round pooch (but then I'm biased)
Same here. The main reason I got out of vizsla was the pointers were better at their job, and way better at home. Massive on/off switch. My vizsla were always doing starjumps in their kennels until the next morning. Very vocal too compared to the pointers
Too hot for much in Nelson today, chillin with the Aircon on!!!

Life would be tough if you were an "outside" dog
Here is a pic of my poncy one, been on a couple if close encounter in the bush, 2 yrs old and starting to come into her own, seen plenty of deer shot on slips etc, we had a great encounter two weeks ago which resulted in a downed deer, trying to really spend as much time in bush as possible to cement what we have learnt, certainly know when we are on hot scent and animals close. Have chosen to solely focus on deer or pigs if around but not on ducks or other birds.
My uncle just got a GSP from wairoa, very placid girl, massive feet and the size of my viszla and only 6mths old so will be a monster, going to be used for pheasant, also met the mother although she growled at me from in her kennel lol

true mikee but with the summer seasons 3 days away id give my left testicle to have the hyper selectively deaf hua sitting next to me at wolfs or available at home for any runners on the pea paddock:oh noes:
i have nothing against pointers big beautiful dogs but imagine trying to find a blind to fit one in a stubble paddock:yaeh am not durnk:
just not suited to my hunting in the way a better suited cold water retriever will be .
the gsp was a stop gap he wasnt gunshy and he was a keen if awkward at times retriever.
but he did get me keen on quail and pheasants for that i,l always thank and miss him.
il never forget h im crying his way even in his wetsuit to a freezing parrie retrieve at boggy creek small waves making his awkward gsp swimming technique even more like drowning tho the water was barely high enough that he couldnt touch the bottom.:D

DAWG HEAVEN
not true pointer anything that works is my cup of tea;)
if i had the room and the work for them id have one of everything including a pointer and setter
also a brittany a chessy and a curly coat that,d do for a start with maybe gsp asa xtra
not so sure about spaniels tho they make me tired just watching them work:yaeh am not durnk:
nah shit id have one or two anyway;).
i think he was trying to explain the actual physical size of a working pointer is not what you indicated as being a problem.
many are in fact smaller than most gsp's as stated......the show pointer is another story.
i got that kawhia i was just havin a stir :D
ive seen a working pointer or 3 from hawkes bay and elsewhere;)
shit ,that brings back the memories of a wet red arse parked on me pack in NATO(wolfs)as the huge head and bod filled the maimai door rumblin like a D8 dozer in neutral.
elvis&red -what a bloody combination.Ill bet me left nut me old china ya next canine recruit will turn out justas much a character as these boys.
shove a photo of the old fella up for old times sake and lets enjoy the memory of both.

here ya are ya soppy old sod;)
1m 99%sure these geese were from a me an you sesssion at wolfs.
dont red look all juvenile and goofy

lachy shot his first 2 canadaa this day but that fn short barrelled 20 almost deafened me and ando.
elv in his always get the bird come hell or high water prime.
he,s spotted birds flying over the l2 but we,ve got enough for this trip.
note camo track pants with the arse over knee colouring which comes from trying to haul a big mutt, after taking the goose off him, out of a narrow deep wet edged drain.
which he,d dived into after the woundie with the same abandon he,d dived into the flooded rakaia river.
the boys -Squire they will be forever in
my memory wherever life or the shotty may take me.yeah red looked a bit goofy ,but at that stage we all knew who was the boss-not you or me once el birdo hit the deck!
After elvis went though i think he really came into his own -probably not in a classical sense but in devotion to the task i bloody admired him. those epic hunts for RRs downed birds in the shitty scrub last season.his retrieves of birds I somehow downed -never protested got on with the job -even if he did looka little puzzled by some of your comments!!
heres to hopin we get in amongst it this year and nail a few in memory of two bloody great dogs.
yep we had some times with that pair of bastards:ORLY:
Betsy the Wire Haired Pointer / Lab cross is a bit older now...

That's a good looking dog K95, even comes in Opti-fade camo
Enjoyed a bit of time behind the binos today -until a sulphuric green fog tried depleting all oxygen from my lungs
I knew its proud owner would eventually smile in my direction

This is Rooney. He's an odd breed here, he's actually a Mountain Cur. He's almost 11 now and loves his beanbag or his bed in the corner of the dining room. He can still act like a puppy when he wants to and loves getting out and about.
