Has anyone had any experience with them?
A friend of mine has a Vizsla pup from them and it thinking about rehoming it due to unfavourable circumstances and they want to know if I'm keen. From the website it looks like they do a far bit of showing but they say they also endeavor maintain the hunting/working traits in their breeding. I want to make sure as best I can that the dog will be of good stock.

Mate I almost always hunt with a dog.
The one thing I would say is make sure you are a hunter who almost always finds deer otherwise you are going to struggle with what the dog is telling you.

I tend to agree with the other guys. It will make your life a hell of a lot harder getting a dog while you are still starting out. Put a few deer on the deck first and then worry about it later, you still have plenty of time. When I got mine it was like learning to hunt all over again and we struggled for a while but its slowly coming together. In all honesty I think I got my dog to early as well but that's in the past. You'll get there man just keep at it! But if you have your heart set on it then go for it!
What if the dogs available now and you want it. Get it and start spending time with it then when you re ready hunt it then ?
You can start hiding stuff from it plus getting your command lines sorted before you go bush Dunno just a thought if the dogs not too old who cares if you own it for a year before hunting it ??
Funny thing is Phil, when and where we have been its bush hunting. Half ( more than half) the time the buggers are there looking at us walk past. So its not like your in the wrong spot or theres no deer. They are just wily and its hard to get one in the thick shit without spooking it or it gapping it before you know its there.
Every time I have been with Two-shot (every time) we have either seen them or put them up and they run off.
So as I said they are where you have been.
Not saying get or not but they can be bloody handy. :)

If he was to hunt with this dog with other hunters who already have hunting dogs will it pick up the skills faster?
Just curious as every time we get a new dog it learns off the older ones much quicker so I'm assuming its the same in the bush?

Do it mate especially if its from good lines and as long as you get out hunting enough to justify having the dog and are prepared to put in the time and effort to train it then you should get a good result, like brads said though if you can't reliably put deer in front of it then maybe not... Strange to tell I know a bit about these folks. They have the litter sister to a dog I used to own. A black pointer bitch. They took her with them when they moved to NZ.

The owners still have it and are still deciding if they will let it go. The owner asked me if I would, hypothetically, be keen just to know their options. I told them it would depend on what sort of litter it came from and that's why I posted up on here.Quote:

When I was about your age (30 yrs ago) I bought a GSP pup. I spent two hours a day with him training. He would point and retrieve wickedly..I tried him in the bush but he was very noisy and probably too young...Sadly I had to give him away at 18 months old as my circumstances changed and I had no place for him..
If you are going to get a dog be sure that you are going to be able to keep him mate because there is nothing worse than spending all that time with your mate only to have to part with him.
