Thread: Poodles as a deer dog

Now don't laugh wife making noises about getting a little poodle.
I may need to cut my losses.
Has anyone used one what are they like.
I used a weimaraner she was good.
Springer as deer dog too noisy when on the go scenting.
I know the bigger ones used on ducks etc.
Just wonder if they can indicate reasonably well,find and generally do the job

Family friend had a poodle as a 'farm' dog on a lifestyle block, could turn it's head to most tasks from bringing stock in to guarding the hen house from harriers so I can't see why hunting would be to much of an issue

standard sized poodle (the big ones) are great for retrieving waterfowl. the little ones are nothing but upholstered rats

Wow you could even get your hands clean after the gutting of deer.......just wipe em clean on all that lovely white woollen hair

Poodles actually look good without the humiliating pompom powder poofter haircuts.



A travesty to do that to an intelligent creature - especially to one which has been bred for the natural advantage of a woolen coat.

If you or your family suffers from hair allergy these guys are meant to be the business. I like that grey one above^^^

Also great for allowing the dog in the house - no shedding!

Poodles are said to be very intelligent -- actually so intelligent it makes them HARDER to train as they try and second guess the trainer!

Compromise and get a Labradoodle

i have a an english bull terrier x dogo argentina. the most embarrassing thing is he absolutely adores bichons and poodles. its embarrassing as 35kg of teeth and muscle goes all "gooby" over a wooly rat

I went down the Springer path last time.
Was bird shooting at the time.
SWMBO was makeing noise about the roly poly toilet paper dogs.
Used cunning and strategy to have a look at some Springer pops.
The rest was history.
But I reckon you can train pretty much anything to indicate and find.
It's just do they air scent well,don't whine too much when excited that sort of thing.
I can't get too close to check out as I might snooker myself.
