    Pup

The wife is finally ready for a new Pup.
I had a hunt around looking for a female black Lab and contacted the first couple of breeders that came up in the google search
Both have litters due, both are asking 2.5K for a Pup

Is this now the norm? I'd banked on perhaps 1500$ but that blew me away.

Anyhow, looking for a hunting Pup with retrieving ability. Down south so not sure if the GSP/ Visla type would have enough cover on them for some of these mornings and cold water. No experience with them anyway.

Bloody hell you only want the pup, not the property it comes from.

Yeah, I'm certainly a bit behind the times if this is new norm.
This is for a dog that will be Spayed and will never enter a show ring.

Id be to scared to take her out the gate.

well our original EP's were $600 without papers, our latest was I think $1500 (which I felt was not too bad, cheap actually for a dog from 100% working stock) a workmate has a spoodle and a cavadoodle which were $1900 each for what I really consider to be "spca specials"
For $2.5k i would expect a guarantee the pup is totally clear of inheritable genetic defects.

See if/when @BRADS might have another litter coming. Those dog pups the other day looked to have the insulation of a seal.

@jakewire have a look at pups on tm and you will see why they are going for $2500 from a breeder. a lot of labs are selling from $1200 -$2000 around duck shooting last year litters were selling with in half a day on tm.
My neighbour paid $1600 last year but parents where tested hip etc but the lady he brought it from was hard work

Hmm, Thanks, never looked on TM sort of a bad rep I thought. Maybe my thinking is a little harsh.
However I'm sure something will come up.

Mate that certainly isn't the norm from what I've seen, your original estimate is pretty right. They have got a bit more expensive though, we payed $1250 for our un papered Black lab bitch, (mum was papered). Gone are the days of sub $1000 pups.

    Yep prices have gone crazy.
We decided to get another Bichon, after losing our girl.
Budgeted 1500, prices were anything up to 3k
    Just crazy stuff
Actually we got lucky, my latest shepherd is a ex police pup ( great dog ) and we were asked
to rehome a 2 year old bichon, a couple of months ago.
The bank account breathed a sigh of relief.
Prices seemed to jump when Covid hit.

Check out local pound/SPCA it's surprising what turns up there.I have a vizla/lab/staffy? from SPCA as a pup.I don't know his exact breeding but I know the bugger can find deer and he sure as hell didn't cost $1500!

Wife works for council and has a bit to do with the dog control team.
She said there are some quite nice dogs that turn up and appear to be straight GSP, Lab hunting breeds
