Yup, prices are up. Mate sold his pure lab hunting pups for 2k each and when only one was left he had people offering 2.5+ just so they could secure it. Gotta do your homework, some are worth the 2.5 and others are not.

$2500 is the top price that breeders with good track records and time in the game are charging. Look on trade me and you will see dogs that played with a lab once being sold under the banner of a lab and they go for 1500-2000.

Compare that to these designer cross breeds, have seen a cavoodle being sold for $7k. A guy at work paid $3.5k for one.

$2500 from the right breeder is a good price. $2000 from a mating with no health checks on the dogs is a gamble

For $2.5k i would expect a guarantee the pup is totally clear of inheritable genetic defects.
Have a chat to any Gundog trialists in your area, they usually know who has what and where
An EP is actually priceless. Especially the young dog after locking onto a mob of pheasants on Friday night then way up in the mountains yestersay wants to eat weed under water in the river apart from wanting to be in the video as the trout is netted. LOL.

Pups are definitely expensive at the moment. But to be honest theres been a few litters out there that haven’t been so good and not worth what they are being sold for. As @stagstalker said, gotta do your homework.

One of my mates bought a lab spaniel x for 3k....couldn’t believe it. My dads wirehaired viszla cost the same!

adopting a papered Vizsla pup at Easter, health tested parents, puppies will be health screened etc as well before adoption - $2k
Have been on quite a few breeders waiting lists and have missed on a few litters due to number of pups born / the fact that I'm after a male - several over litters were $2.5k+

Bloody hell I was selling border collie pups at $400 with no papers a few years back. Not in the market for a new dog but $2k+ is getting into the realm of a crazy money.

Granted any dog with the right training and personalities is priceless

Demand for puppies increased hugely last year with lock down, especially with the number of people working from home now as the new norm. When I started looking for a Vizsla litter prices were around $1500 for a papered pup... it's now more than that for a non papered, non health tested pup cross bred or pure bred.
I've been looking for a long time and decided ages ago I wanted a dog that had the full health checks on parents as well as pup's so I was fine with $2k to get what what I wanted.

Some designer cross breeds are well over $5k - look on trademe right now - Cavoodles are going for $6.5k! The first four pages of pup's on Trademe are all over $2k
