Thread: Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Have met quite a few pig hunters who reckon their line has a bit of ridgeback in it for stopping. Uncommon to see pure-bred ridgebacks in nz although there are a few. IMO in NZ purebred ridgies have a tendency for being timid aggressive which might have limited their popularity. Also quite big which limits speed and increases risk of joint problems/short working life. Yes exceptions exist.

yup my brother was breeding them before a messy divorce i got the last pup out of the last litter he was the runt . all his brothers and sisters were very solidly built but this one was very lean but tall between 3 and 5 years old he weighed in at 55-60kg and he wasnt fat . he was my wifes baby and was staunchly loyal to her and very protective a few salesmen were terrified of him . he was a gentle giant but he could give that look that said "i dont like or trust you so best you leave"....didnt like kids or little dogs . wasnt agro with them would just try to avoid them , find a corner to hide in .....
