    Shots for the dog

So me and Max the hound have been lucky enough to get invited on a quail hunt, she is due for Vaccination but wondering if any extra shots required before taking her out on the Farm?

Will check with the Vet but thought I would ask here as well.

    Cheers

I agree , I get vet to write when and when expired , they got a template now cost me the price of the pills $10 . Every farmer I show is very pleased ! . Not a lot of effort but goes a long way in striking respect with a farmer
Other shots that earn respect is a nice single malt

Yep. as above... worming tablets for sheep meases and all the rest... give it to the dog 48hours (minimum) prior to going to the farm...
Give it a frontline/advantage or practic flea treatment as well if possible, save yourself the trouble of ticks and the rest as its pretty warm on the north island these days (not sure where you are exactly)...
I haven't kept on top of this myself which reminds me to do... The flea treatments advise they are effective for 4 weeks, but I'd put that up for debate any day... in reality they last for like 2-3 weeks.... But yea..... if you'd like to go the extra mile give the hound one of them too...

    Good luck shooting...

Drontal is the best for this...take your receipt with you just so you have it to show the farmer...as Munsey writes, they really appreciate that...

Looking forward to the Quail hunt. First time on the birds for the dog so hoping she picks it up. She has a shitload of prey drive so that's in her favour, discipline is good after being on the deer so much...should be fun. Just hoping I manage to knock a few down, never really done any shot gunning. Bit of practice next week on the clays I hope.

Pics and report to come for sure

    Cheers

Pick out the individual bird, @Dino!! Follow him up with the swing...they are super neat to hunt...makes the pheasant seem like a lumbering Hercules...

Comfortis for the fleas and ticks mate....last longer than the dab on stuff, 4 to 5 weeks or longer if you use it regular.

I used to go to Cromwell for the opening of the quail season down there it's quite a big event in the district , you and your dog will love it . Don't be disappointed if the quails give your new dog the slip as they will on an experienced dog too . They like most uplands are masters at it . They can run like hell or just may go to ground and you walk past or over them , great fun and if it comes together it fantastic .
