sick dog
after using my huntaway at work this morning to do a small job she, 30mins later she started going down hill. i took her home. a check 15mins later i knew things weren't right. 35mins drive at the vets.
first signs i thought the dog was a bit lame.then she seemed a bit wobbly on her feet tail between legs unhappy. time i got to the vet couldn't really stand had to carry her in.
12pm x rays seemed normal bit of gas but couldn't pick up any blockage
real high temp
bloods didn't show much little down on gm ??
urine test came back normal
seemed tight in back legs.
drooling alot and also tryed vomiting nothing coming up
been on a drip had anti histamine
also been giving steroids now 6pm. had stopped trying to vomiting and was standing with shakes.and bit more life no much but more eye lids moving etc.
nothing standing out for the vet
good chance she got stung by onga onga. but others have said it might be a block bowl or intestine (but x rays looked ok)
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

there is no posion used on the farm and dog has been kennel. also hasn't been eating meat the last week only biscuits the last week and was feed last night.

at the risk of sounding crude, does he smell of feces? or the urine or penis smell rank. i'm serious here because i've seen dogs get liver failure and it follows the symptoms you described. in this case it was caused by the dog licking a small amount of antifreeze from a leaking radiator
hope the dog comes right, all the best

Good post there gonetropo we have had dogs go down on the shot due to heat stroke, should have come right by now though so doubt that. Also pollens from grass can sometimes cause this our very similar.
-
the urine didn't smell. she is only two years old. not antifreeze brand new sxs rode on the back all the way out the back only work for a hour and not a big shift.

No Christmas treats? E.g. Fruit cake??? Dried raisins etc are highly toxic
Chocolate too of course

no treats. was normal when i got her out of her kennel. not left to roam and not know to scavenge. rest of her mates are ok.

up date from vet. her temp has came back to normal. ate a little last night and keep it down. also this morning had a bit to eat no signs of vomiting or diarrhea so far. must of had her standing and seems real drunk on her feet.he was going to try to walk her with a towel under her for support.also urinated this morning
so she is stable/comfortable at this stage but still don't know whats going on

maybe something going on in her head ? swelling perhaps ? no siezures?
-
no seizures. vet said all her neurological signs seem ok. just been out to the paddock where she was . there was only one spot i lost sight of her. went for a look make sure there wasn't any think dead. all there is is shit load of onga onga. thats the only thing different that day between her and the other dogs that i know off.
