Question What are you feeding your working dogs?

i am looking at increasing the fat intake on my working border collie i was just wanted to know what others are using? i have been thinking about the hills active or eukanuba premium preformance, but keen to hear about any others that you might have found good.

I agree to upping the fat content in the winter months.

Fat content is the energy content so was just looking at getting more energy from her.

I cook for 4-5 days-- start with boiling rice then add half bag frozen greens then couple kgs mince --once cooked and cooled put in large yogurt punnets.serve mixed up with dog bicky pellets.

Try a bag of coprice working dog, one of mine has 4 cups/day other has 3, thats running them,in winter when cold plenty of straw in kennel and one or two beef/mutton briskets per week depending..., my dogs hardly show rib, just covered and run fit

A mate and i talked about this a while ago and came to 'our' conclusion that feeding to much meat/fat the dogs dont run as well, note these are pig dogs

Do you look after the stock out Tawharanui, are those your dogs ive seen on the back of the ute?

Not surprised Splash ,had dogs that use to scour on tux biscuits . I'd look at feeding more & a better quality food like Nutri plus.Works for my dog & keeps him in pretty good nick. Not familiar with what Moon hunt was talking about but pig dogs generally work a bloody sight harder than your average farm dog.Pig hunters seem to understand nutrition for dogs pretty well.

Energy 4800 / Size Health Nutrition PRO Cyno / Other Products / Products / Home - Royal Canin New Zealand, Premium Pet Food for Cats & Dogs

Royal Canin 4800 = 32% protein - 30% fat. Fat gives the energy to any dog. Look at the kibble they feed sleddogs. This sometimes have more than 40% of fat. The 4800 is an excellent food to give for a limited time. 1 or 2 bags for 1 dog and than go back to a "lighter" food. I have my pups, bitches in pup and bitches with pups on Royal Canin medium adult or medium junior.
The rest is on a cheaper food. If I have a dog which is to "thin" and out of condition, he gets 1 or 2 bags 4800 and this transforms any dog. In 3 weeks time you have a diffrent dog. 4800 is just to expensive to feed the complete kennel.
