Will a fallow take on a dog

Daughter and I took the dogs for a walk on sat evening to a spot we hadnt been to. Ruger my dog is good I can walk him off the lead and he wont take off. If hes unsure of something he will sit and look at you and wait for instructions. Daughters bf dog is hypo as but usually will stick around. The place we went to was crawling with deer ruger would do his usual just sit and wait for instructions when he spotted one. Would be told good boy and leave it, and he would carry on. Towards the end of the walk the other dog took off after a couple of the bigest fallow stags I have seen. Was gone for ages but could hear dog way off in the bush. At one point sounded like it might of been in pain but dont know the dog that well. Finally caught up with the dog and it seemed fine. Daughter was checking dog later on and noticed a few scrapes on its chest. Would a fallow stag have a go at a dog?

I would think so yes they are very aggressive not sure I would take your dog out with that deer chaser again give your dog bad ideas

Likely.....fight or flight i guess, are there pigs in the area, may also have been from running through scrub.

Fallow are feisty. Will kill a dog. Scrapes on chest suggests a buck has rolled the dog and dealt to it with its front hooves.
Sounds like the dog got what it deserved.
We farmed a few Fallow with Reds - the Fallow would come after the heading dogs when working them, the Reds wouldn’t.

Fallow seem to have "small man's syndrome" Ive watched a fallow buck and a 12 point red having a scrap. Every time the red broke away the little guy kept after him. Watched them for a good 10 minutes.

Fallow doe with a fawn will square up to a dog. Had Bo take me into a deer when we were down south and he moved a bit far out into the open in front of me before freezing up, fallow doe then stepped out of the bush line and started posturing, snorting and stamping her feet like she wanted a scrap. Yea he seemed to be onto it when it took off, ruger without being told came straight back to me giving me the wtf does she think shes doing look, and sat beside me waiting for instructions. I just say to him here and that means stick right beside me and only move when I move.

Went out possum shooting with him last night and Im sure he can tell a hit when shooting them he just sticks beside me, when he sees me getting ready for a shot he sits and watches if I miss he turns and looks at me to see what Im going to do next. If its a hit he will stand and wait to get the yay or nay to go and get it

Last year during the fallow rut I watched with amusement through my scope a mid sized fallow stag get the better of a 600kg angus bull who thought hed like the shade of a fallen tree the buck had claimed. Wish I'd had a good video camera on me.

Bucks. Fallow " bucks" Not stags, not hinds . Bucks and does...

Fallow are the bravest,bucks are very agressive.No problem killing a dog.

Its only a small dog sorry bitch as well a little hypo jack russell cross. The thing will run all day if we go to murawai the hypo little thing will run beside the car all day

If we're being pedantic, hypo means below normal, hyper is over.

I suppose an easily excited dog could be hypo behaved - as in less than normal, but I suspect hyper would be more suitable.

Actually come to think of it, in this day and age the buck may identify as a stag or the other way around..

Fallow mutton.... I'm wondering if that is a result of a Buck on a Ewe, or a Ram on a Doe?

Watched a few fallow spikers giving the red spikers a hard time a few weeks back. They are grumpy little tricks at times

My dog Buck was in a Fallow mood one day, looking at me with Doe eyes when he happened across a deer, 'Look a Stag, Buck' I said. Buck is quite bright and Stag out like dogs balls, I could see him thinking to the Fallow 'Get in beHind', I told him "Doe not do that Stag, Buck, Doe the other one'. The Stag Bucked and Buck Bucked the stag back, I Hind in the brush and Doe not say a word. Bucks Stag Staggered Bucking Buck, I ran out of shit to say.......

I had a mate a few years ago who had emus and said when I took my dog to his place, watch out or those emus can kill your dog. Turns out when you have 50kg of no nonsense Rottie barreling towards you, you turn around and leg it :XD:
Of course I know what emus can do with their feet, and I'm sure fellows with a fallow with antlers can do a bit of damage, but an intent dog can also be a pretty serious contender. Although a 20kg heading dog will need to know what it's doing to get the better of one I would think

It is an interesting one, I think that if you are taking a single dog into the bush, then the dogs realistic expectation is that you are its pack. I am not a dog, so I can't say with any authority what the dog may or may not think on the matter, but, I have my theories. Anyway, back to what I was saying, kind of. A pack of dogs is more than well equipped to take down pretty much anything in this country (Apart from some Zoo animals, if they were to escape and become naturalised in our forests) because they all know where to be and how to hunt. When you have a single dog out in the sticks there is just no way you can be as effective as another dog hunting in that manner. So my theory goes that more single dogs may get attacked by Fallow than packs of dogs. Not that that was in itself the OP's question, but it is somewhere on the road to an answer.

I have not found an avalanche of literature about Fallow and dog encounters, perhaps it could be someone's thesis at university if they are looking for something new and exciting to do? You may laugh at that, a mate of mine once spent a year investigating the colour of baboons asses while engaged in mating rituals for his thesis. That bloke can tell you with some authority if a baboon wants to bang you or not by the shade of the colour of it's ass. I could never really see the real world application of this knowledge, apart from very niche scenarios where you were fucked either way, but there you have it. The more you know.
