    Wire Haired Fox Terrier

Can you still get these from decent breeders?

When I move back to the South Island I'm considering getting one of these as a rabbiting dog/general hunting companion/pet.

I know they were originally bred for rabbit and fox hunting but are they still any good? I know very little about dogs.

I've got one - Eddie. Mostly they are show dogs here. Ours came from Nelson and he is a great little dog BUT they do have small dog syndrome. Ed is a brilliant ratter and possum dog and he'll flush phezzies. Would I have another one? Yes.

there are alot of show bred ones around, great pets but so far removed from proper working lines you would get the same results from a schnauser.
you would get a better working dog from the jack russell gene pool or if you want the ultimate terrier then look at the jagd terrier.

By small dog syndrome do you mean they're excitable? Are they a fairly healthy breed?
