At least you get to do it at the NTC In Rotorua with the awesome setup there. Our guys go to Whangarei for it

If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.
Last time our guys did one they went north
How is Swanny? Is he still a trainer up there?
I think Vegas was maxed out so spread the load around.
He's long gone, working in a refinery or similar in Malaysia or some where like that

Anyone on here going to the
VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE. REGION 4 30TH AND 31ST JULY ?
I went to the one up here. Quite good. Focus on FENZ and accepting change. Personally I think it is upper management who need to worry who will have a job next year.
The work shop on Fire Studio was good as was the Livestock Supplies in Gore debrief
You will likely have different presenters and guest speakers. We had Major John Barclay from the NZDF who was quite entertaining
Your right about the upper management.
Here in Canterbury there are 7 RFAs ( Plus DOC ) so 7 PRFOs and 14 deputies and lots of them will be circling around and eyeing up the limited positions in whatever the new beast finally looks like !!
The thing that worries me are mass resignations from volunteers !
I truely hope that is not the case. Volunteers are there for their communities and comradary that goes with it.
There is the stigma of us and them but I see both having a place in their own communities whether rural or urban. Both having equal strengths and weaknesses.
Amalgamating 43 organisation into one make sense as we are all doing the same job. Although the NZFS is well structured in terms of systems, procedures, equipment and resources I hope that the other organisations are no dissolved into it.
Hardest part of accepting change is losing the emotional attachment. What ever happens you will never forget the way it was.
@akaroa1 Here is something that came out of the conference
When working on a smouldering structure, and I guess rural as well, they are going to supply filters for the BA masks
Leave your set on the truck and wear the mask with filter.
There will be an additional 2 masks supplied for each truck making a total of 6
From what I understand, the trials have not been favourable
Ask the presenter if he would be happy to demonstrate one for a couple of hours while doing exercise
Did the conference in Vegas last weekend, only stayed for Saturday as I had fridge magnets to polish on Sunday. Like most I wait with bated breath as to the outcome of the merger. My contract as RFO for the coming Fire season has just been renewed with more hours, so I will take the money whilst it's there. Who knows what's in store down the track. Being a Volunteer Fire fighter has certainly helped both of my kids with their job hunting prospects.
"ars longa, vita brevis"
When you look at the percentage of the country covered by Rural Fire and that of NZFS. However I think the structure of the NZFS may win the day.
It will come down to the people at the helm as to how it evolves. I hope common sense prevails
