Pagers are a nightmare here. At one point I had four to test which were most consistent. One call saw one of two flex pagers activate and they were about an inch apart

Was interesting. I've only had good experience in my brigade but it's pretty clear the other brigades near us are run very differently. Eventually they will run out of vollies if that is the real culture and it continues, be interesting to see how things pan out after a bullshit outfit like 3d have done their best to get some ratings

Vollies doing what vollies do well - making things happen.
A big 3 days at Pukekohe under the sun and no shade.
The track temp in the pits on Sunday was 48deg. The day before was hotter.
The only payment was an unlimited supply of drinking water and getting up close to the action

some awesome critter set off a smoke flair on the top of mt manaia this arvo so guess what happened. Up we went with stretcher (on my back), rescue line, trauma and resus kits only to find the spent canister an no one around.
400m of elevation and 1,110 steps on a nice warm afternoon wearing overalls, boots and carrying our helmets.

I did a pager test last week for the crew and found a couple of weak spots (flat Batteries). I use a pager every day for my work, it's the same pager I use for police , medical, fire and security both alarms and phone lines . Couldn't work with out it.
This is awesome....didnt realize a bunch of you guys are vollys..im a rural fire fighter with Kaukapakapa 78
Good to see

@BRADS will be busy tonight in this wind. Hedge fire at Matamau Dvke brigade attended also.
That wind is playing havoc and making the RFO's nervous and twitchy. The other day at a rural fire, embers were carried 400m and started a spot fire.
1 from the other night. Started as a car fire and the wind carried it. Unlike @BRADS we have ours at a more gentlemanly hour so we are home at 2.30am and sleep before work

Heard the siren again at 2010hrs 7ks from town, bloody windy here.
2007hrs and they are still there
Brads AS GONE home to Baabaraa that is proberly why they called back up:D
We have had about nine calls in the last week. Manly minor stuff but on Wednesday called to a triple garage that was a total loss along with everything in it of course. terrible timing but there is always someone worse off

I don't mind when it's quiet, actually prefer it. When it's quiet peoples lives aren't being turned upside down.
On the first week in January we were called to a chest pain medical. I had the pleasure of doing the CPR when he arrested ten minutes after we arrived and was successful. With several family members watching we got him back, so stoked for them

We had the same 8 years ago. Guy just afrter we got there and got him back. Small communities you get to know most of the people. 2 years later my wife and I were invited to their 50th wedding anniversary. Still see him around now and then
@BRADS saved a life but is to bloody modest to say.Well done mate:thumbsup:
our brigade has always been tipped out to certain classes of medicals (purple i think) but now we are a first response brigade as well so get sent all st johns calls in our area.
Anyone going to the combat challenge this weekend?

Hi guys. I'm a volley in Lincoln Canterbury. Reasonably busy station with 300 odd calls annually. Doing QFF in august and am currently doing drivers. Can't wait for first drive under lights. This is my fourth year in nzfs and served two before that with rural fire force. Been a part of 3 different from nzfs brigades too. Love it and wouldn't be without it. Good luck with combat. Gave it a go once. 4Min, dropped the dummy 3 times but still finished. Didn't help o was racing against Steven Maw. Drivers challenge sounds fun though.
Welcome @Tuckerbox
On your 1st drive remember the first rule is to get everyone there safely
Thanks Sako. That's the plan. Great team here and receiving some exceptional training. Just need other road users to play ball. Remarkable how many drivers can't see or hear a big red screaming 14 ton truck up behind them.
The exhaust goes straight onto where the crew get changed and they are sick of it.
A few years back we had a large fan fitted to the roof above. About as much use as shooting deer or ducks with blanks.
Annual Spring Clean visit by Region and Area was due so I thought I would try and get the message across.
Their response was to wait till everyone changed and out of the station before starting up. One suggestion was to fill with pink batts and drill vent holes on the side opposite the exhaust.

@stumpy @Reindeer how many marks do I get out of 10 for creativeness?
