We had a insulated Woden box made.
Works well until the driver doesn't take it off.......

Well done all of you people.
I'm doing some review work for the NZFS at the moment (another shiny arsed consultant :) ). Its giving me some good insights into what you do. Bloody marvellous service.
i know at our stations we have the long hose that clips on , and the extractor fan kicks in when the bay doors open .... you boys need to push for a better system ..... what vollie station are you at ?
We have an extractor pipe/fan system. A bag inflates to hold it onto the exhaust and an air switch releases the air so it releases off as you drive out

That is what we were pushing for. even under complaint of health and safety the property team says fat chance. The Region safety and wellbeen manager was the one who said for everyone to vacate when starting up :wtfsmilie:
@BRADS The container was left on for 2km going to a call the other week before been noticed :D
@sako75 thats a 10+ from me.
In all seriousness though its a bit of a shit situation. When I was a vollie in Wainui we made up boxes with Kitchen extractor fan(tinfoilish type) pipe that went to the roof. All done by members, 400 ish calls per year.
Up until recently even at our (paid) station back row tracks, 3rd and 4th runners had a plywood box about 300 deep filled with Pink Batts as exhaust protection. Only took 4 years of H&S lobbying to get it put right.

Don't start the engines till the coms are done, crew gear up whilst coms are coming thru. Doors get opened, engines get started and away we go. Interesting training last nite, picked up a few small points for the crew to work with. One of the crew had turned the motor off on our first response vehicle to save fuel, but with all the lights running it didn't take long before it was flat, Using a delivery hose as a suction hose, oh well might as well do a tandem pump exercise, and one of the suction lines had sand jamming the valve so it wouldn't work, one of the Wayjax pumps decided to play up. Luckily the operator is a mechanic and could fix on the spot. Guess that's why we practice. A good nite and a good turnout.
Our old van was constantly going flat for the same reason :omg: Our new van has all LED so not such a drain on the battery.
LED strip lights are the shiz
No time to wait for the stragglers. As soon as a crew is ready she rolls out the door. The rest can following in our smoke
Myself and my two boys.

QFF from Waitati Brigade near Dunedin here.
I'm a St John volley on the island but we don't end up doing much as the district nurses do 90% of the emergency work. But big ups for those that do end up at accidents at the middle of the night!
greetings from austria to my colleagues in nz

Brad most of the stuff is online ,what specifically do you want to know. Pm if you like.
Put it on here and we can all have a crack at it
At least you get to do it at the NTC In Rotorua with the awesome setup there. Our guys go to Whangarei for it
Qff is soooo much fun, really awesome course.

How is Swanny? Is he still a trainer up there?
I think Vegas was maxed out so spread the load around.
He's long gone, working in a refinery or similar in Malaysia or some where like that

Anyone on here going to the
VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE. REGION 4 30TH AND 31ST JULY ?
I went to the one up here. Quite good. Focus on FENZ and accepting change. Personally I think it is upper management who need to worry who will have a job next year.
The work shop on Fire Studio was good as was the Livestock Supplies in Gore debrief
You will likely have different presenters and guest speakers. We had Major John Barclay from the NZDF who was quite entertaining
Your right about the upper management.
Here in Canterbury there are 7 RFAs ( Plus DOC ) so 7 PRFOs and 14 deputies and lots of them will be circling around and eyeing up the limited positions in whatever the new beast finally looks like !!
The thing that worries me are mass resignations from volunteers !
I truely hope that is not the case. Volunteers are there for their communities and comradary that goes with it.
There is the stigma of us and them but I see both having a place in their own communities whether rural or urban. Both having equal strengths and weaknesses.
Amalgamating 43 organisation into one make sense as we are all doing the same job. Although the NZFS is well structured in terms of systems, procedures, equipment and resources I hope that the other organisations are no dissolved into it.
Hardest part of accepting change is losing the emotional attachment. What ever happens you will never forget the way it was.
@akaroa1 Here is something that came out of the conference
When working on a smouldering structure, and I guess rural as well, they are going to supply filters for the BA masks
Leave your set on the truck and wear the mask with filter.
There will be an additional 2 masks supplied for each truck making a total of 6
From what I understand, the trials have not been favourable
Ask the presenter if he would be happy to demonstrate one for a couple of hours while doing exercise
Did the conference in Vegas last weekend, only stayed for Saturday as I had fridge magnets to polish on Sunday. Like most I wait with bated breath as to the outcome of the merger. My contract as RFO for the coming Fire season has just been renewed with more hours, so I will take the money whilst it's there. Who knows what's in store down the track. Being a Volunteer Fire fighter has certainly helped both of my kids with their job hunting prospects.
When you look at the percentage of the country covered by Rural Fire and that of NZFS. However I think the structure of the NZFS may win the day.
It will come down to the people at the helm as to how it evolves. I hope common sense prevails
