    Aged deer skull clean

    Hi team,

I have a head and antlers been hanging in a tree out the back for a few months now. Before I start cleaning it up with pliers and a knife, wondering if those more experienced may have some other tips or tricks for removing the old skin?

    Cheers.

soak it in water to soften the skin, then waterblast it.

Remove as much of the skin and tissue as you can with pilers and knife, then soak it in a bucked of warm water with some sunlight soap for a day or two before water blasting it clean, you might want to soak again etc.. or do a very quick simmer in boiling water (5-10min max) then blast it. Soaking it in warm water with sunlight detergent will probably be the best as you will need to soak out all the fat and oil that is in the skull

Hang off the jetty and let the sea lice do it. Salt water of course and well tied.

Bit risky, once the connective tissues are broken down it's quite easy to lose nasal bones and a few teeth.
Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

@Jaybe If you remove the petrosal bones (just flick out with flathead screwdriver) and poke in the bone under it makes cleaning the brain cavity much easier.

    Update:
I can confirm a warm soapy bucket of water for 24 hours works a treat. Peeled off easy as with a flat-head screwdriver and knife to make a few small cuts. Made sure to keep well away from the Front door
