Thread: Possum blanket wanted

Any of the forums clever buggers into working with possum skins?
I’d like a possum blanket for the Unimog, but the only ones I’ve seen are in Chinese oriented gift shops & cost more than gold?
Not wanting charity, happy to pay a fair price, but would like to avoid selling a kidney?

When I was possuming in the late 1970's I made a possum skin jacket. Mum never forgave me as her sewing machine never worked quite properly after that. But a simple jacket took 22 skins. I saw Davey Hughs' one on his and Margs' king sized bed back in the early 1990's and they had used about 60 I think.

That's why they cost two arms a leg and one kidney

Yeah I figured it may be like that.
I’ve got an oilskin/possum lined vest from the Thor Davis at Glenorchy back when he did them, super warm, it’s an amazing product!

Well, if anyone’s keen, that’s what I’m after, possum fur, probably oilskin other side, or maybe one of those waxed cotton fabrics would be a bit nicer to live with?

That's actually a lot more reasonable than I was estimating. Both options look good.

I’ve got a lot of pretty average skins already tanned from when I got some blankets made up, can sell you some if your keen?
