    Taxidermy Tahr

I have a random question for this area of the forum where I have never ventured previously, I hope you all who inhabit here can help me!

A few days back my missus found a stuffed 'mountain goat' (thar?) on Trademe: https://www.trademe.co.nz/antiques-c...3056666677.htm

Now, this exact piece has a history with us as a couple: he (Jeffery) was in a bar in central Auckland when we went out on our first date! I have a photo of him with us somewhere even.

The price on him is raising quite rapidly, and it is getting near to what I can not afford.

Oh learned folk here, what is a piece like this (without sentimental value) actually worth?

I like tahr too much to shoot one, but out of interest, how much would you be looking at to shoot and have one stuffed to a similar effect (whole body, scenic setup etc)?? Even if I could shoot one, I can guess hauling it whole out of the bush is a real bitch? (I only shoot rabbits which are slightly easier in all aspects)

    Cheers

if mounting a red stag...shoulder mount igives you buggerall change from 2k....I would suggest you could double it for a full body goat....if you go onto any taxidermist website they have price lists...last time I looked trout were something like $100 per inch.

Would cost you well north of 5k for a modern full body with some scenery. Obviously would look significantly better than that one.

Trophy and guide fees might be another 6k unless you shot it public

    Thanks all.
    $5000 :O
Yep, that's definitely beyond my budget. I wonder if bidders on there know what it's worth?

To get the full body mount done like that it’s around 5k but taxidermy very really sells close to its purchase price.

That's a pretty shoddy mount though. $500 would be more than enough...
