Thread: Any crossbow hunters in the Auckland region?

Hi all!

New member here. I just bought a crossbow and am looking to get started with target practice and eventually hunting. Is there anyone on here in the Auckland region who would be able to offer some tips and advice? I probably need to start by getting my scope zeroed but it looks like it's hard to find an archery club that will allow xbows...

Good morning, very few if any Archery clubs will have xbow rated targets. One of the most cost effective targets is the "bag of rags" target that you fill with around 20kg of rags. Best to get a target as you want to put in alot of practice.

Thanks for the advice! I bought a big foam target with the xbow and set it up at the back of my property (bottom of a valley) but the bolts were flying high and too fast to see and burying themselves in the earth, I thought going a range might help me recover the bolts from missed shots haha...

There are some good video's on YouTube on sighting in and distant to start from.

I started at 10m, then worked back from there. Be wary of bolts not hitting your target as they could cause problems at further distance
