My guy had one of these from ~6-8 years and then moved on to something bigger.

It's a compound bow and I am not sure if that is what you are after. We went compound when he was young because he got a lot more arrow speed and could deal with a little more weight. It was a good move when he was young as he could do a lot more wiht the bow than if he had a recurve.

Remember that even a bow that is 15lb, at his draw length might only be 7lb, not a lot of power which translates to not a lot of distance or accuracy.
Not the cheapest but hold value better and they dont outgrow them as quickly.
For a recurve, there will be more around second hand but I would suggest something like a SF optimo or similar, e.g. samick which can be had for around $150 new.
I don't see too many second hand 'proper bows' about for the really young guys, I wouldnt go with something that is not a recurve. (unless going with a compound)
