    New to bowhunting

Hi all, new to the forum etc

I am looking for your tips on getting into bow hunting and hunting in general. I don’t come from a family that has ever hunted however I want to and would like some advice on where to start, things to consider etc

I live close to Hunua, AKL however from the reading I have done that isn’t really worth checking out?l, however maybe worth going for a walk??

Any info would be appreciated. As an FYI I do have a bow and can shoot decently out to 60yards

    Cheers

@gonetropo Some of the bow's could be set by the user between 5-70 lbs. I have a buggered shoulder and used a xbow for years then picked up one of these adjustable ones and worked up the draw weight according to the pain. It might not be the macho 70lbs everyone pulling but am happy to sneak within 20yds and poke a hole with a 2 blade at 55lbs.

@RobinHood welcome to the forum mate. What are you shooting with?

Nothing is tough about having a 70 lb bow and looking like an uncoordinated praying mantis while trying to draw it back.

Just shooting a PSE Stinger at the moment, not the best bow in the world by any means but it shoots well enough and I figured it was stupid to spend a heap before I knew I was interested.

Nothing wrong with that, you don't need the best bow to have fun and put some meat on the table.

As a beginner I would limit my shots 30 yds ish until you learn more about yourself. After a few encounters you will know how you can manage "Buck fever"
    if you have any.
Carry a range finder (and use it).
Don't skimp on broadheads. Cheap crappy broadheads can be a pain to tune and have seen a few fail.
Practice your shots in real hunting situations, steep uphill-downhill at different ranges. Leaning out from behind a tree and on your knees.
Team up with an experienced local, that will help speeding up your learning process.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. This forum is a full of good bastards, just don't ask for spot X
Don't put too much pressure on yourself and enjoy the NZ bush.
