Driving back to the Airport from the last River City Open in Wangas I asked forum member @Ozzy if he would be interested to come to my home club and offer some coaching.
Myself and @gimp are the only club members that currently, travel to IPSC events and we do not have any exposure to anything IPSC outside those matches. So it can really be the blind leading the blind when we have a shoot at the club especially when it comes to the subtleties and development.
Ozz made fun of himself but said he would come over for a weekend.
A date was set with plenty of notice given to our club members who at the time were very interested when the idea was brought up via a couple of club meetings and follow up emails.
It's not like the bloke was just up the road and making a short trip.
A long story short, I will never attempt to organise anything like this for our club again.😐
However, the lack of attendance didn't phase Ozzy at all and he put on a great day for a couple of us that tried to absorb everything he passed on.
We started at around 0930 today with some basic accuracy and build drills, which in time, only demonstrated that I am quite shit even at the simplest stuff. 😆
We then worked thru tons of other fundamentals at an enjoyable pace.
What I appreciated was Ozzys ability to pick out my faults.......(there was only a couple really tiny, minor ones😆....... and he would offer and demonstrate ways to improve on them without making you feel like an idiot which in fairness, is an achievement for any instructor/coach, in my case.
When I actually managed to listen properly, I managed subtle improvements and gained some tools to work with when practicing my own.
Ozz managed to burn thru a heap of ammo himself, demonstrating drills and demoralizing me.....but in a good way😆
We learnt a shit ton of stuff that I can actually remember and hope to apply when I practice on my own.
5 hrs later, I personally, was just shattered so he took pity on me and called it a day.
Cheers Ozzy. If we had the population base, I am positive you could make a living coaching people less frustrating than myself. 😆 You're good at it.
Thoroughly enjoyed my day and learnt a lot.
I hope you and your girl enjoy the Koha of meat and fish.
