    Service Pistol Match

Shot my first full match today. Actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Shot it with my .40 I had 3 misses. 1 at 50m sitting and 2 at 25 shooting the wrong target/sequence.
Not bad ipsc training by way of getting the basics tested I reckon.😆

Might even be a decent reason to buy a revolver😆

Sounds like this would be interesting to have a go at.

A bit like the Steel Challenge the other week, great fun and all good practice.

Also keen on a revolver, maybe in 45ACP though.

Steel challenge looks wicked fun, if you shoot it with a moustache, orange tinted aviator sunglasses, a trucker cap and extremely tight 501s

It is bullseye shooting but under time. The 50m shooting is something we would rarely get to do in ipsc. I was surprised at how capable my gun was at that range.
I am seriously thinking of a revolver now, much to my wife's disappointment😆

I have no idea what to get yet. I will take my time and see what's out there and what others shoot well.

Gives you the choice of shooting 38special or 357mag.

A fella at the club was shooting one yesterday. I will likely get a S&W in .357 so I can shoot .38 but don't know what model yet.

    Not in a hurry.

Get the Smith out of the box accuracy is better than any other, I have had my 586 since 1982 been tweaked once shot several tonnes of lead never had a failure that wasn't caused by ammo or operator, just don't use .38 cases I load all my loads in 357 mag cases they work better through speed loaders and don't crap up the chambers like .38's do, can shoot 700fps WC loads to major power factor with AP70, if I only had one pistol it would be the 586 it may not be fast enough for IPSC but it is more accurate at longer ranges than any semi-auto with the right load it will take out 200m rams.

+1 on the L frame S&W! The M586/686 is pretty much the perfect revolver for service match. They do benefit from a good double-action job that enables you to shoot the entire match double action and still get sub 10 ring grouping at 50 yards, and one hole groups at 7 yards from the hip. By a good double-action job, I mean about 5.5 lbs pull with a very slight staging before hammer fall. Be very careful who you choose to do the work!. With that type of trigger job you can rock the trigger back and still have a single-action style hammer drop but in a fraction of the time. My old 586 set a few Service Match records back in the '80's when my eyes were a lot better!

Good advice fellas, cheers. Bloke at the club gunked up his one shooting .38 brass. I will remember that if I buy one.

That's funny. These days its a heap faster than in 1984! But is seriously good fun.

There are some legends in that video too! Rob Leatham has put on a few pounds since then and Brian Enos..................
