    Shotgun for IPSC/3 Gun

What are you using? Considering options. Just want to shoot standard. Have considered - 930 JM, Stoeger M3K, Versamax (Hunting a fisting has then on sale for 1300, would need modifying)

    Versamax tactical here.
Only mod is a welded lifter/carrier.

Soft to shoot, a few up the Mag and just fits me. Only ever issue was first time shooting, and I reckon that was my fault. Maybe 1500 - 2000 through, and only 1 issue in the first 7.

I use a versamax tactical. Has a few mods done and goes pretty well.

Couple guys at the club have the Jm guns and they seem to always have malfunctions at our club matches.
I suspect from not holding them properly when trying to shoot fast, but I get told they should cycle properly regardless because they're gas operated

That of course is not true but I just nod and mind my own business.

I haven't pumped that many rnds thru mine but the only malfunctions I have had so far were due to ammunition or a combination of having the gun out of the shoulder and ammo.
Heavyish and gas operated makes for soft shooting.
Benelli tacs go good as well.

1301 comp. Best out of the box gun for ipsc type shooting.

Whatever you choose just make sure you learn all the quirks of it. Surprisingly, alot of people dont have a clue what to do if they run it dry mid stage or how to load it off a gun empty start or how to clear a jam because they never took the time to understand how it operates. Meanwhile the clock is ticking away...

Versamax runs like a dream shoots any ammo I've put through it,the recoil is very soft... get a extended mag tube, change out the mag spring and follower, add match saver, extended charging handle, inlarged bolt release, weld the lifter and port the loading gate ..

@Beavis if your coming to Auckland , call by and grab my versamax tactical and give it a burn.

Seano s one has the loading port opened up, but apart from that I think they maybe the same.

Already done from factory on a 1301... the loading port is pretty good too but as always will be tweaked to the user.

All except loading port done on the tactical version.
However the lifter, still needed some additional welding to suit me.

The loading port is larger on the 1301 comp vs the tactical, 3 1/2 inches for competition model from memory? The tactical model isnt really suited to gun games.

If you get serious with this sport then pretty much everyone will open up the loading port on their shotty as no manufacturer produces something that everybody likes.

Another little known option you can do if you get your thumb bitten while loading is not to weld the lifter to add length, but shorten the lifter to miss the thumb entirely by cutting the end off in a diagonal shape. One way requires you to know how to weld, the other way can be done with a hacksaw and file or grinder. Theres plenty of pics on the net of this and it stops the bite from both weak and strong hand techniques.

Beavis, the versa max competition model comes with lifter, larger charging handle and button sorted. You just need to upgrade the spring, and the loading port mod is easily done on a belt grinder, just go slow.
